Reading the Wiki entry on it it sounds interesting and I would check it out if I had Spike TV. I doubt it can be anyway definitive and I'm not surprised its mostly about gory visuals but interesting concept.

PBS had a show called The Warrior Challenge that had modern soldiers try their hand at ancient warfare that was pretty good for people interested in that sort of thing.

Its pretty ridiculous hearing these grown guys trying to talk mess to each other. Especially forced from the Apache and Samurai.

There was one guy who shot a dummy's eyes out with a bow&arrow from like 25-30ft away. I went bonkers.

They should go into more specifics about the algorithms/database they are using to determine the winner. My guess is that it is total bull****.

If it's based on the tests they run, it's not very scientific. Still, I agree with most of the outcomes.

You know, it's kind of funny you mention that...I just found out that the T-rex was an extremely slow animal. A human could easily outrun one...it was kind of cool how they figured it out using the size of the leg bones with the calculated strides.

not to mention there is a strong contingency that believes t-rex was actually a scavenger, which i always found to be an interesting theory

I've seen a few episodes and while I think some of the weapons test are cool many of the outcomes are questionable or just plain wrong.

For instance the Ninja versus the Spartan. In their simulations the Spartan won because he had a big shield to hide behind. The Ninja demonstrator correctly pointed out that a Ninja wouldn't fight someone out in an open forest but would just come back under cover of darkness and kill the Spartan while he slept.

Another ridiculous one was Sun Tzu versus Vlad the Impaler where they fought one on one. Forget that Vlad the Impaler has a 1000 year advantage on Sun Tzu but more importantly Sun Tzu would never fight someone one on one or directly especially given the technological edge.

Well, I tend to think the established "rules of the game" are that both warriors are actively fighting each other. Moving away from that premise doesn't really work. It just devolves into endless and pointless "what ifs."

For example, you say the Ninja will sneak up on the Spartan and kill him while he sleeps. I raise you the fact that Spartans were always in large groups, and surely had night sentries as any self-respecting fighting force would.

My biggest gripe with the show is that they begin to ignore defense more and more in the later episodes. Those early episodes where they tested, say, the Katana against Viking chainmail? Gone. It got to the point where, when they did Centurian, I don't think they even did a SINGLE test with his shield. And that was perhaps the biggest tactical advantage he had!

Gripes aside, it's entertaining, and that's all that really matters.

    Don't mind him, he's special.

I don't watch the show, but the video game looks pretty hilarious. (in a 'so bad it's good' way)

    The game is indeed entertaining.

The comparison to the PS1 Bushido Blade games are spot-on.
