"They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety." - The person on the hundo
Okay ... now I remember why I'd stopped responding to you. Willfully obtuse ... great debating tactic. Anyway, enough.
Did you want me to prove something holds no relevance? How about instead you prove it does have relevance. seems like you are ignorant of what obtuse means. It doesn't mean ignorant. What are you claiming I am ignorant of?
If Ron Paul actually won the GOP nomination he would get slaughtered. He has a dedicated following and some ideas that have widespread appeal but in a general election with the press and Democrats focusing on him he will have a hard time maintaining widespread support. Consider his appearance on Meet the Press where Tim Russert hits him on his use of earmarks and other things. <iframe width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/en4wM1VIVXE" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Don't get me wrong there are a lot of things I like about Ron Paul's stances on the issues but I don't think he has much of a chance of becoming president.
And rich nymphomaniacs who write almanacs and do science projects all day probably never had to worry about either.
Ron Paul would get slaughtered. But here's the thing about him if he won. He would call Obama on a lot his BS, and that would force Obama toward positions I think would be better for this country. The other GOP candidates can't do that because they are in the same boat as Obama as far as towing the line of BS. I would want Ron Paul to win the GOP nomination because I think he'd push the debate in the right direction. I would never want Ron Paul to be President because along with his good ideas he has some totally detrimental and even batsh#t crazy ideas. I would never want him running the executive branch. But I like the idea of where he would take the national debate.
I doubt he would push Obama towards positions such as repealing the PATRIOT act or lessening the surveillance society. He would raise the national debate on those issues but I suspect that Obama would actually retrench on those issues so he could take the votes of those who support those type of policies. Obama could then exploit the split that would happen among Republicans if Paul won the nomination as many of the law and order and Neocon types would be dismayed over Paul's stands regarding drug policy and national security. At the sametime one of the biggest weaknesses I see regarding Paul is that while his message of limited government is always front and center he often talks about that in a very rambling way and the Meet the Press interview is a great example. A lot of his ideas regarding limited government and individual liberty will likely get side tracked by how he applies those ideas to a various individual issues such as drug decriminalization.
he would not push obama towards repealing the patriot act because american citizens want the patriot act. I don't understand why it is so hard for some of you to comprehend that. this is a message board. we do not represent the majority of american thought. edit: and yes it is pandering
I don't know that Paul would push Obama toward repealing the patriot act. I do think it would cause Obama to be honest about not repealing it, and expose it for what it is. Bringing more attention to it would be step in the right direction of changing the patriot act. I don't want the whole thing repealed, just changed.

can you make it a little bigger? I might watch it next time. so who's gonna watch the "debate" this evening?
Why is "debate" in quotes? Do you think they won't debate? My guess is they all go after Romeny tonight with Mormon slurs.
I hope that Herman Cain challenges all the candidates to join him in requiring a loyalty oath of Muslims in his administration.
I think the Japanese should be required too. You never know they may bomb pearl harbor again. Oh oh and don't forget about anyone that has descended from England. Remember when England tried to stop us from claiming independence?!?
I think it will be a farce to see which knucklehead can out crazy the others. Romney: "I think the corporate tax rate should be lowered to 25%" Tpaw: "No, no! 15% is much better!" Bachmann: "I say 9% and get rid of the estate tax!"
Have to agree GOP economic philosophy is just one big race to the bottom. It's basically: "I can cut taxes to nothing, shrink the government and then borrow the money to hide the damage before a Dem president takes over and is blamed better then you can!"
