That's not the problem. Why are you so bent out of shape about this? Did you steal something from someone?

That's but a start. Explain radio silence for 26 days thereafter...

We only know what they told us-- which is that she had stopped replying to emails and did not return phone calls.

No, actually I threatened the Girl Scouts. I didn't even know her name or location. Only the Scouts did-- so they were witnesses to the whole situation. Evidently (but I'm not certain) they shared my intentions with her and she finally leaped into action.... 36 days after the fact.

Yes. That's the way that I would return a found wallet. I think you've told us all we need to know...

Just go away. I'm glad you think the possible loss of my wife's camera is insignificant. That tells me a lot about you.

I've lost a wallet before. I consider myself lucky if the credit cards are still there. I know the cash will be gone.

It sounds like you're a bit out of touch with reality.

You threw that ellipsis in there just in time to ruin my meaning. Way to go!

It is a logical conclusion that could be reached. I constantly said that that is not what I thought her motivations were. I'm satisfied that she thought she was being a Good Samaritan to her friend.... not us... and that she had no intention to steal the camera.

It's just that all of her actions afterwards belied her "good intentions," so it is not illogical for other interpretations of her actions to get a life.

So some Good Samaritan stole your cash and turned in your wallet? Or did they just steal your cash and drop your wallet for someone else to find? In short, they are a Good Samaritan for not stealing your credit cards? Is that they way it plays out for you?

What if you get a call 10 days after losing your wallet: "Hey, I found your wallet..." but then it takes another 26 days to get it back. Are you going to reward them with $50 or buy them dinner or what?

It'd be a Good Samaritan if I were made whole (i.e. cash/wallet/cards returned) like you were.

If you steal something, you're not a Good Samaritan....

If someone calls me and says they found my wallet, then I'll go pick it up and have it by the next day.....like you did.

Depends on how much cash is in there. If the wallet had $50 when I lost it, and it had $50 when it was returned to me, I'd have no problem giving the guy $20.

    It's a conclusion. It's not logical.

I found a wallet stuffed with cash at a sports event. I saw the DL and picture. I found the guy (game had just ended and he was walking up the stairs towards the exit) and gave him his wallet. I did not take any cash.

I would expect the same treatment.

I found a cell phone. Rather than leaving it on a couch in a hotel, I gave it to the concierge.

I found a purse in the Target parking lot. Unfortunately, it was empty. However, I still took it into the Target and gave it to their customer service group.

I carelessly lost my prescription Oakleys in a store at the PGA tournament in Minnesota. Within 5 minutes of losing them, I went back to the exact place where I knew they should be. They were not there. For the rest of the week, I checked with the store's lost and found as well as the overall PGA lost and found. They were never returned. The person that 'found' them is a thief.

We carelessly left a camera on a table at a restaurant. We did not realize it until we got home. We called the restaurant and no one had turned it in. The person that took it is a thief.

I expect that when something is lost (careless or not) in a public place, that it should be returned to the owner whenever possible in the same condition it was lost in.

You just completely ignore the dynamics of the elongated time-frame in our event and you didn't even address it in my hypothetical to you... promptness makes a difference. It disallows the growth of doubt.

You re-tell my tale like it was one day to get my camera back when, in fact, it was 37 days and at least 27 or those days she knew that she was in possession of someone else's expensive camera which she had walked off with-- good intentions or not. There she sits with her thumb up her ass wondering what to do next....

What logical conclusion do you reach when day after day there is no communication about our property? Phone bill not paid? No mail service in their neighborhood? Internet down due to high winds? No gas for the car? What would explain the cessation of communication and the lack of resumption day after day. Now remember you can't look back with hindsight. Put yourself in that place....

What is your "logical" conclusion about those events or lack thereof?

Do you care about stranger's camera? No and that is ok. That says nothing about your character.

    stop crying.

You're making no sense, but I'll try....

If I walk off with a stranger's camera mistakenly, yes I learn quickly to care about it. If I don't learn quickly, that says loads about my character.

    Stop puffing up.

Giddyup.. here is the logical thing to do.
Admit that you are wrong here.
Call the camera lady and apologize her that you had mistreated her, and thanks her for the return of the non-damaged camera. Thanks her again that it only took her 37 days. You make it sound like 37 days is awfully long time, it is not.
Send her a gift card or something to show the appreciation.
Feel good about yourself that you are a better person now.
    Sleep well.

I quoted your response to Dominator-

As i understand your story here, Dominator is not the other woman in the story. So, your moral statement is irrelivant and the fact he does not care about your wife's camera is still no moral gauge.

    Thanks for trying though...

You quoted nobody that I can find....

    Here's my reply to Dominator:

Please clarify what you are trying to say...
