X-men first class - 9/10...maybe a 8.5 more accurately, but it's a solid movie. I actually found the others outside of Prof X and Magneto to be distracting, but there was some great intense moments.

    Your Highness - 7/10

I don't know why, it's such a stupid movie. They tried to hard with the curse-filled dialogues. But for some reason I really enjoyed it.

    Paul - 6/10

Saw 75% of it and thus far it's really nothing special. I guess I'll catch the rest of it some other time.

Sidenote: I keep trying to watch The Tempest but I just can't go past a few minutes without getting lost in all the fancy old English language.

I watched the Swedish film Let the Right One In over the weekend. Stupendous movie - just an amazing piece of cinema. 9.5/10

I need to watch the US remake - apparently it's also very, very good (surprisingly).

The US version is shamelessly shot-for-shot of this version. It's just a remake for idiots who can't read subtitles.

    Thor, 9/10.

The Prestige for the 2nd or 3rd time, 10/10.

I don't disagree with you but that US version is surprisingly effective as well, it even adds a few tidbits here and there to the story.

Not enough to say it stands on it own but it could have been a disaster.

The original is a timeless film though, reminded me of a Kubrick movie almost...

    Tree of Life - 1/10.
Absolutely the worst movie ever made. I don't care what the critics say, this was the most self-indulgent piece of crap ever made. Seriously, if anyone you know heads out to watch this movie, do them a favor and tackle them. I saw at least 50 people walk out of this movie - and it's not controversial, just BAD.

    Super 8 - 6/10
I enjoyed it despite the obvious ripoffs of some of Speilberg's classic films. It was good, but far from great.

    X-Men: First Class - 8/10
Not on the level of Dark Knight and Iron Man, but just a notch below. Really good for a comic book movie with nice tie-ins to the original trilogy.

    X-Men First Class - 8/10
Best X-Men movie, wasn't crazy about the young recruit selection, but Kevin Bacon was great and Prof X/Magneto carried the movie.

    Thor - 8/10
Better than I expected, a nice step in building up to the Avengers. So far every Avenger member movie has delivered except Hulk IMHO.

    Elite Squad - 8/10
You might say this is the law enforcement version to City of God's ascension of drug dealers. This time it's the journey of rookies to BOPE, the small, elite police force that goes above and beyond the law against in the drug war. Dark, intense, but ultimately did not resonate as much as City of God. I liked the views and conflicts it brought up though.

reading subtitles suck, 1/3(or more) of the time staring at text dialogue

movies such as The Departed and Let the Right One In were shameless shot for shot remakes, but better to be shot for shot than some lesser interpretation imo

<-- watches english subbed Korean shows

and... for my contribution to this thread...

Just Go With It - 8/10
Despite being a chick flick, this romantic comedy hit all the right points, and stuck to the formula... no Rob Schneider, pro or con?

    Super 8 - 8.5/10
Not bad... Superb acting by the kids. Train wreck sequence was amazing. Didn't develop any emotion for the 'monster' which I thought they had hoped. Summer Blockbuster? Doubtful. Lived up to expectations? In my opinion, no. As a stand alone film? Good enough for an 8.5

i saw this too. I'd go with a 7. I was expecting worse with the reviews but it was a pretty good with some nice laughs even though the story dragged at times.

Con - Rob Schneider should have played "dolph"

Is it a ripoff if Spielberg was one of the producers of Super 8?

Super 8- I enjoyed it. Nostalgic in many ways.
I didn't find the child characters to be that memorable, compared to those of films like Stand By Me or The Goonies. Even so, I still didn't dislike any of them, and would still consider them strong.
I certainly think things like your surrounding atmosphere, and your mood can alter your perception of a film. To be honest, I've been in a bit of a funk, perhaps lost a bit of the ability to enjoy these things.
While not as good as I expected, I still enjoyed it.
    4 out of 5. I think.

    25th Hour 4/10

I have no idea why this movie has a 7.9 rating on IMDB.
I get the storyline and all, but the movie is just plain boring and it wasn't well acted either.
I guess it must be good because Spike Lee directed it.

    True Romance 7/10

Great cast. Very well acted for the most part. It started out great, but then just became wilder and wilder, to the point where it was borderline silly.
I definitely enjoyed watching it though. Patricia Arquette was great.

    Man On Wire 6/10

Cool Story, but the movie itself was nothing special. I don't regret watching it, but it probably isn't a movie I'd recommend to people either.

    My Life Without Me 8/10

I loved this movie. It has some minor flaws and some things could have been done better, but the acting was great and the storyline is pretty moving.

    L.A. Confidential 7/10

I had already seen it about 10 years ago, so I might not have appreciated some of the suprise elements this time around the way you do when you watch this movie for the first time.
It's pretty well acted for the most part, however it's simply a little too over the top for my liking.
If it wasn't for Kevin Spacey great acting I might have downgraded the movie to a 6.

    Sleepers 7/10

Decent flick. I had already seen it about 10 years ago as well, though I had already forgot most of it.
It's a decent story and you probably won't regret watching it, but it's not a must see movie either.

    The Wrestler 8/10

Some minor flaws, but overall a really good movie. Check it out if you haven't already.

    Midnight in Paris - 8/10.

The best film Woody has made in years. Saw it last night here in San Francisco with digital projection and sound. I would have given it an 8.5, or even a 9, had I liked the ending at bit more. Truly a terrific flick, especially if you love Paris, and I do.

HMMMHMM, with all due respect (and I really mean that), I wouldn't see a movie with you if you paid me, not after your take on LA Confidential and The Big Lebowski. I'm simply stunned.

    Super 8- 9/10
I loved it. A lot of people seem to be complaining that its like a lot of those old Speilberg movies, but I don't get that. I feel like I haven't seen a film like those in a long time, so I loved that here. In fact thats what originally drew me in on the first trailer. Very entertaining, kids were great acting, scary at parts when it should have been, and all around I loved it. Some of the complaints seem dumb

    X-Men First Class- 8.5/10
Not perfect, but very entertaining and one of the best Marvel has put out. Better than Thor (and I really liked Thor)

    Haha. That's ok. :)

I'm very well aware that I'm in the minority of people who didn't like those movies (not as much as others, anyway).

To each his own I guess.
Though I'm sure there are plenty of movies we both like.

damn you people over rating that piece of crap super 8 movie. The guy who plays the father was actually the actor on one of my favorite shows in the late 90s , "Early Edition" if anyones seen it. Its about a dude whose cat brings him tomorrow's newspaper and he tries to prevent the crimes about to happen. I'd rate it as 8.5 / 10 even though its a show

I'm going to have to lower it to average it out.

    super 8- 1/10

    Movies I've seen recently.

Super 8 - 3/10 Quality acting, very good action scenes but it's really just a compilation of previous movies. Extra points taken off for movie makers the caliber of Abrams and Spielberg wasting my time with this movie.

Before Sunrise 6.5/10 A young Ethan Hawke, boy meets girl in Europe, solid movie.

Before Sunset 7/10 Part two of the Sunrise movie, 10 years later. Better movie, excellent acting, really enjoyed it.

One Week 6/10 A guy is told he has cancer and so he tries to find himself and live the life he wants to lead rather than the life he's lived so far. I liked it but there just wasn't enough meat to the movie IMHO.

The Lives of Others 8.5/10 Tremendous movie about the East German Stasi secret police and how they controlled people. Highly recommend.
