But what if the almighty Wade endorses him?! Maybe we can take advantage of this honeymoon period.

I'd take Ocho as a #2 too. He's never been a bad guy or a slacker, just likes attention.

There was a tweet from Cushing about a month ago that he was flying cross-country to convince Cromartie to join the Texans. I think his reputation is inflated a bit based on Jets' overall defense, but he's still a very solid corner and certainly better than what the Texans have.

I thought his reputation (as a corner...not the other thing) came more from his time with the Chargers.

That is true, and it really came from his 2007 season when he had 10 INT's

Cromartie is so overrated it isn't funny.

That being said he'd still be the Texans #1 Corner.

I'm sorry, but you'd have to be completely insane to say no thanks to Chad joining the Texans. I understand he's not the beast WR he used to be, but he would be a major upgrade over everyone the Texans are thinking about putting as their #2 WR.

Yup, he really wasn't that great last year for the Jets. Guy was never covering the #1 receiver of the other teams and he still got beat on a large majority of plays.

Still, all that being said he is an upgrade at a position where we can't afford to be sub-par in.

 Yeah, because athletes always end up in the teams of the players they "tweet" with.

I kid, I'd like some free agents, too, but maybe not these guys.
No way, man... that would be like shooting yourself on the foot! :p

At one time it was, but by the end of his SD career, it was well-established that Cromartie was a typical "playmaker" CB - that is, more interested in making a few big plays than giving consistent effort in man coverage. That's why SD gave up on him for not much in return.

That said, Cromartie got a lot of headlines last year for taking things more seriously and basically "turning the corner" to becoming a reliable starter. I'm just curious how much of that was inflated by the scheme he played in (Revis, Rex Ryan, etc.). Not saying he's a bad corner, but curious to see if his effort will hold away from the Jets.

I wouldn't mind putting Kevin Walter in the slot. I believe he's boys with 85 still.

There was an advanced stats article I read a few years ago that ranked all the CBs from the 2008 season in terms of yards allowed, and Cromartie was by far in first place at something near 1000.

Why would you put a sure-handed possession receiver in the slot?

Clutch, can we just add this asterisk to every post in this thread discussing possible FA CB's?

*_______ is still an upgrade over anything the Texans currently have at CB.
