so are you saying shaq wasn't the best player in the L for years b/c he missed free throws down the stretch? the best player = the guy who impacts the game the most in every facet. that was wade. dirk was the best clutch player. best clutch player doesn't mean best player, or else melo anthony would challenge for that crown.
Dirk's +/- was +55, which led everybody. And bringing up the rear in that statistic was..... LeBron, who checked in with a -36.
LOLOLOL, god I've hear it all now. Just for the record, when we chose sides, gimme the clutch player on my team. You have have the best player. I don't care.
prime shaq or this year dirk. take your pick. prime tim duncan or this year dirk. take your pick. please, take a nap so you can regain your sanity
Dirk was also playing with a torn tendon in his left hand, right? Awesome performance by him throughout the playoffs and in the Finals, when it counted. The Mavs did a great job in pacing themselves throughout the games and making their push at the right times, and Dirk picked his spots to take over masterfully.
Who said anything about free throws? How well you shoot free throws is determined on your ability... to shoot free throws. That's practice. Turnovers are blunders, mistakes that one usually does not make. Like I said Wade had an amazing series, some of the shots he made were unreal. However, as a poster I've observed that sometimes you don't look at the degree of a certain stat more then just looking at the statistic itself. Didn't help that Wade was 34 of 49 from the line while Dirk barely missed.
You know you're a homer when someone averages 3 less rebounds a game and gets credited as a better rebounder. Being short doesn't make someone a good rebounder.
again, i completely agree that dirk was the most clutch player in the series. jason terry was #2. a typo.
Dirk with his unique skill set and height take away a big man out of the paint, which make it easier for his teammates to operate. He'll get double team whenever he gets the ball, which means one of his teammates is open. It's not easy to block Dirk because his release is almost on top of his head and you're quite ignorant to say that Dirk doesn't rebound. His rebounding number is quite good for a guy who play mostly at the perimeter. Dirk also score alot in the fourth quarter when the game is on the line. Bottom line, Dirk made his teammates better and he has better teammates in this Finals.
Why do you believe your own prediction now when you were clearly wrong with your prediction of this series? You are pulling stuff out of thin air, just like when you predicted the heat would win. You were wrong, eat crow. Your claim that dwade played better than dirk is also ridiculous. Dwade had LBJ and Bosh to draw defense away, Dirk had Jet and Marion. Case closed.
1) i predicted they whup the celtics and bulls. and they did. thought they would do the same to the mavs, and i was wrong. 2) did dirk see single coverage or not? so he and wade saw the same type of defensive attention.
But the point that I'm trying to make is in a series like this where the majority of the games are determined in the last 2 minutes, being clutch is a big deal. Imagine if Wade wouldn't of bobbled that pass in game 4 I think it was? That's a chance right there to win or force the game into OT. Could of very easily been 3-2 Miami.....
you can nitpick every play if you want. but if lebron james scored 4-5 points, wade may not have been in that position. just like jason terry was able to handle the load in the 4th if dirk couldn't get a shot off. the jet was MAD CLUTCH in EVERY game for the whole game except for games 1 and 3. he was the second most clutch player in the entire series. i wouldn't come out and say jason terry was the better player than wade in the finals.
Lol dude it's fine to eat crow, I predicted the Bulls were going to beat Heat but they didn't. You're getting a bad rap during these playoffs but I see where you're coming from in all your arguments, we might not agree all the time but who does. The only times I thought your arguments were little unwarranted were about Rose not deserving his MVP, I thought you were a little high off stats. I feel like if everyone gave credit where credit is due on this board, it'd be a much better environment for debating.
If you believe that Jet and Marion deserve the same type of help as LBJ and Bosh, then you are showing your total lack of intelligence and knowledge of basketball.
But that's just it, the only game where Dirk even came close to having a remotely bad game was today and he picked it up fast in the second half. Yes terry was clutch in the past few games but the disparity between his play as whole in all 4 qtrs is very far from Dirks. Dirk was not only more clutch then Terry (which doesen't seem possible) but he had better overall games. Cept for today of course. Jet was a man on a mission today.
oh i do give dirk a ton of credit. he's in the top 5 player status in my book after what he had done this entire playoffs. besides the clutchness, his efficiency prior to the finals was historic. people may not like stats, but what do we judge for wins and losses - the final score. that's a stat. you don't use 1 or 2 stat to make an argument so you can skew the results. i try to use many different stats in my arguments to paint a broad picture when comparing players. i simply think dirk was a no-show for 3 quarters offensively in game 4 and 6 and his team was able to withstand the heat and kept the game close. to the poster "what," clutchness = best player for him and i disagree completely. if that's the case, carmelo anthony should be the best player from the past reg season b/c he hit like 4-5 game winners this year. wade's consistency and overall impact on the entire game were hard for me to overlook; he looked like superman out there a lot of the times. you forgot game 4: dirk was 6-19 and was a no-show for also 3 quarters not the same type of help. but jason terry, barea, and their 3pt shooting forced the heat to play dirk straight up. so it pays to watch the games, not just names of players.
