So we have a "rivalry" with the Cubs.. I wonder if they know that? Heck, our biggest rivalry (Cardinals?) is their 2nd or 3rd biggest rival. Bring on the AL. Bring on the Rangers.
When I Was a kid, the big rival was the Dodgers. MLB keeps messing with the divisions all the time. Other than the darling franchises (Yankees, Red Sox, Cubs, St. Louis) it has no worry about moving teams around.
I hate it though isnt it two 15 teams with no divisions and the top 4 or so make make the playoffs.. Id hate the move but id get over it it. But throwing us into the AL west would sting alot! But I dont think that is the proposal......
playing West Coast teams somehow makes more sense to you? Yes, you add the Rangers...but you add teams that are just as far (maybe farther) to your list, and they're 2 time zones away. Seems dumb. I wonder if MLB/Astros staff has done the analysis to see if the fans they will gain from the "rivalry" with the Rangers + Red Sox/Yankees draws will negate the # of fans they'll lose in total by changing things so drastically
http://houston.culturemap.com/newsd...gue-jim-crane-ownership-group-not-interested/ Hopefully this is true
If it's so lucrative to play the red sox and Yankees, why aren't more teams trying to get to the AL? Last I checked, the nationals weren't selling out games against the braves or pirates. Last I checked, the marlins were still drawing flies in a market that has hordes of east coast transplants that would sell out all of those series (plus they could foster a natural rivalry with Tampa). If those are the compelling reasons why the astros should move, why shouldn't they also apply to teams with even less NL history?
It would suck to leave the NL, not because of the DH or west coast games, but for the nostalgia...Braves, Cubs, Cardinals, Giants, Dodgers, Mets, etc. I could keep going. Houston is a NL city and while we may not have a true rival, we have NL history that would be lost. If MLB is targeting one team from the NL Central unfortunately geographically it makes sense to keep the Brewers in the NL and move us. Blows.
1. It is amazing to me how Gospel ESPN has become. Olney reports that a couple of guys say the Astros COULD be a possible team to move to the AL, and everyone runs with it. 2. If they go to balanced leagues and they retain interleague play, then you're talking about expanding interleague play. It would be more frequent. They will have to make a choice about the DH...either both leagues have it or both leagues don't. But keeping separate rules that affect how you build a roster over that many games is silly. 3. Houston is an NL city. Has been since 1962. The 'stros and Mets were the first expansion teams. There are other teams that are more natural fits to move...the Brewers being one...but the Rockies being a better one. Rangers fans complain about the AL West and late starts...moving a team with fewer NL roots who is already in the Mountain time zone makes far more sense than moving the 'stros.
Are you suggesting moving the Rockies to the AL West, and moving the Astros back to the NL West? Some Central team will have to move West.
