Lets see if i've got the hang of it. Let The Right One In? Che part 1 and 2? Stake Land? The Fountain? The Beach? The Elephant Man? Mulholland Dr? Pans Labrynth? Those are indie films? Now what about movies that won awards or were highly nominated? Shawshank Redemption Hurt Locker Atonement etc. Indie Films? What about Batman Begins, could that be an indie film?
I think you mistaking it for art house style films.. Those are the ones that might be a bit boring and dry...

well give me a freakin answer then? Am i close? B/c my mind is blown right now. If i make a film of me having this discussion with you fellas, and i added a Grizzly Bear soundtrack, would it be considered an indie film?
I'd recommend Le Scaphandre et le papillion (The Diving Bell and the Butterfly) if you're looking for that unique and artistic feel...it's the movie I'm lovin right now, and seems to fit into your criteria. It's pretty well-acclaimed and was nominated for several Oscars---so you probably know about it already. but hey, just giving a shout out here. <iframe width="560" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/NrOB-E1lVBQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Seen In Bruges too, was kind forgettable for me. Any comment about the movies I listed in the first post?
In Bruges, awesome movie. Ok, ok, i'm getting it now. Any movie that was good but didn't make a lot of money in the box office. Ok, i'm with you guys now!
Probably the best indie film I can recommend is: The Commitments. I actually saw the movie when it was limited released at the theater. There was only like 1 theater in all of Houston showing the movie. It's just a classic film. The only other movie you might want to check out: Orca the killer whale. This was another movie I saw at the drive in theater when I was younger. Well, I got another one: The entity & Take this job and shove it. The only films that my father and I ever saw together.
Indie Films are films not produced by any 'big' studio. They are usually cheaper and on a smaller budget because of this which most directors make up for this by choosing to select stories that let them unleash their 'creativity'. Some directors do this by doing something no-one has tried as a way to get their film to not only stand out but possibly begin a new genre. Some directors just go all out in one area such as acting or special effects leaving a lack of in other areas like story, special effects. Some directors latch on to stories that suit a 'niche' which have a following but isn't popular enough for a major studio to gamble on.
Incidentally, the movie gave us these words to live by! <iframe width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/QZ7Sxn-BpfY" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Hey OP, you should check out "The Room." Classic Indie film. Here's the trailer: <iframe width="425" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/yCj8sPCWfUw" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Probably one of the greatest films ever made. I know of a few theaters that run screenings of it frequently.
