To what it is worth, I'm going to write about my thoughts and the direction I think the rockets should go. I'm not a basketball guru, so my thoughts will probably be undeveloped, but hey, I'm confident that clutch fans will make sure to correct me. IMO, the best possible situation for the rockets (with no trades) is to make it to the playoffs and get booted the first or maybe second round. Which for me is really fun, but I want...no no I need a championship. In general this forum goes nuts for Kyle Lowry, Patrick Patterson, Chuck Hayes, and Courtney Lee. And not so much for Brad Miler, of recent Chase Buddinger and Luis Scola, and even our leading scorer Kevin Martin. I think that it is evident to all of us why this is. They are lacking in the defensive end. McHale is wrong when he said defense can be taught to anyone. Team defense can, but you still need the athleticism to stay with your guy and challenge the shot. I also don't think adding a big will improve us to the point that we want. Projecting that we won't make a huge run the next two or three years, we should be proactive and do something about it before it's too late. Other than an all-star, we should push to trade our vets only: Chuck Hayes, Louis Scola, Kevin Martin, Brad Miller, and Yao Ming. Yes most are amazing players, all are one sided or crippled and in 3 years the ball is in the air. We see Scola is already having slight knee problems which will probably propagate next season and so forth. Although, Chuck is at the cheap, we can probably get a nice developing young for him, considering the hype. I think Kevin Martin is great, but we should get what we can for him now and that could be a top three pick next year. I think after next year, he will be on the decline, making it harder to trade, and essentially wasting his talent on a "non competitive" year. In my opinion the "untouchables", reasonably speaking, are only three players, Kyle Lowery, Patrick Patterson, and Courtney Lee. I can see Patrick being a solid starter in 2 or 3 seasons and Courtney Lee being an awesome spark off the bench with good defense. If we can land a top three pick for Martin and solid youngs for Yao, Scola, and Hayes, I would be satisfied. We could be a force in three years as well as keeping the season interesting by watching our players grow. These vets are keeping us afloat but not building us a boat. Sorry, couldn't resist the last sentence  3...2...1...flame suite on!
I'm not trying to be rude, but if opinion posts can't be made here, then this should be stated clearly or another section of the website should be dedicated to this. I know my opinion isn't popular, but doesn't that make it a little more interesting.
I tend to agree with you ross, and I've touched on similar subjects (Sell High on KM) in the past. Unfortunately, that's just not the direction Morey is going. Right or wrong, he's trying his hardest for us to make the playoffs, even if it's as a continuous 8th seed.
Yeah, I think he is in a way gambling that we will be able to trade for an all-star. If he is right, then it could work, if he isn't then we're back to square one with all our players being a little older and a little slower.
So.... where is the proactive part? And its the general census here to sell high and rebuilt. And seeing that we have Mchale here. It would not be surprising at all that Rox next year sux real bad and got a high lottery. So Herrara actually did say something right this time. Already posted. IBTL.
Do we know this for sure? I think we will get a clearer picture of our direction on draft night. I can see why he would want to say all the right things before the draft, you don't want to project desperation with a big FOR SALE sign. It will still come down to the asking price of those high picks, but I am hoping he is willing to "pay up" a little more this year. In previous years caution was prudent because they were still banking on contending, even as recent as last year(foolishly others would argue). That should no longer be a concern now.
Without trading for a superstar we will be in limbo. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't think we will attract anyone of that caliber anytime soon. I think if we trade for some great young talent and a lottery pick, give our younger guys playing time next year, and get a solid pick, we will make it to the playoffs the year after. I really don't think we need to go cavalier, just young.
I will make you a personal bet that if we keep the roster the same, we will not go lottery. This is almost guaranteed, just as guaranteed as not being a contender.
hey, i thought it was funny. i gave you some rep for that i just wanted some place to post that gif..didodidodidodido
Actually, most of the threads you start would earn someone lesser a negative rank. If you started the threads and posted the posts you did under a new alias, you'd end up with bad rep.
If you are honest with yourself - a massive portion of the threads you've started recently are pure trash. Maybe the original posters thoughts have been discussed here before....but I'd rather read a member's thoughts than consistently be barraged with whatever the latest chron.com story is. Amazingly enough, I just read it....on chron.com.
They're more like sometimes crude but usually funny humor with information sprinkled in it. Hit or miss, not "pure trash".
