Good for you Hard-On. We played HS ball together at Klein Collins... Kid could slug - not much of a pitcher when I played with him. (though he was 2 years younger than me so obviously he improved)

Astros County reports that the Astros have signed Justin Gill as an undrafted free agent. He was a teammate of Kyle Hallock's at Kent State.

Some of this(all of this?) may have been posted already.

First meeting with the Astros last night went well... I should be getting a deal done early next week then off to the Tri City Valley Cats..

    CampbellChron Steve Campbell
Astros have signed RHP Nick Tropiano (5th round), CF Andrew Muren (22), 1B Chase Davidson (41), RHP Blake Ford (44), OF Chris Epps (45).

That leaves Astros w/7 draftees signed. Scouting dir. Bobby Heck also announced signing of U of Arizona C Jacob as undrafted free agent. Clarification from sloppy typing: Astros scouting director Bobby Heck signed U of Arizona C Jacob Meskin as a non-drafted free agent.

A breakdown of the Astros’ 50 picks and some of the highlights of the draft class of 2011

Posted on June 8, 2011 at 11:38 pm by Zachary Levine in Astros, Astros/MLB

The Astros wrapped up their draft Wednesday, putting the final touches on a class of 50 that will begin playing in the farm system as soon as next week.

    By experience

    37 college players
    13 high school players

    On the diamond

    18 righthanded pitchers
    6 lefthanded pitchers
    3 catchers
    10 infielders
    13 outfielders

    Signings announced

    LHP Chris Lee (4)
    2B John Hinson (13)

    Tough sign?

LF Billy Flamion (25), committed to Oregon.

    Best bloodlines

RHP Jack Armstrong (3), son of former major league All-Star Jack Armstrong.

    Late upside

    RHP Dustin Kellogg (34)
    RHP Chris Morales (35)

    Is this a rerun?

The Astros drafted Georgia first baseman Chase Davidson (41) three years after drafting him in the third round and failing to come to an agreement. Davidson’s stock fell as he struggled in his first two years of college before picking it up in his junior season.

    From their
own backyard

While considered a down year for Houston talent at the top of the draft, the Astros still spent many of their late picks on players from close to home.

RHP Gandy Stubblefield, Lufkin HS (14)
RHP Dustin Kellogg, Caney Creek HS (34)
RHP Chris Morales, Clear Creek HS (35)
C Kevin Gonzalez, Mayde Creek HS, Texas A&M (36)
RHP Steve Martin, Brenham HS, Texas A&M (37)
RHP Buddy Lamothe, San Jacinto College (40)
RHP Blake Ford, Lufkin HS, Lamar (44)
LHP Zack Hardoin, Klein Collins HS, Missouri (47)

    Keep watching

Seven of the Astros draft picks made the NCAA super regionals, offering fans a chance to watch them on television this weekend and perhaps beyond at the College World Series in Omaha, but also delaying the beginning of negotiations with the Astros.

    OF George Springer, Connecticut (1)
    RHP Jack Armstrong, Vanderbilt (3)
    RHP Kevin Miller, Cal (18)
LHP Mitchell Lambson, Arizona State (19)
1B Jesse Wierzbicki, North Carolina (24)
    C Kevin Gonzalez, Texas A&M (36)
RHP Steve Martin, Texas A&M (37)

    13th Round - John Hinson
    22nd Round - Drew Muren

    45th Round - Chris Epps

33rd-rounder Dominique Taylor looks like he's planning on returning to school. http://www.standard.net/topics/sports/2011/06/09/former-northridge-standout-drafted-astros
The Astros' offer better wow Gandy Stubblefield, as he looks dead-set on going to A&M. http://lufkindailynews.com/sports/article_19d05ce6-9164-11e0-aebd-001cc4c03286.html

John Hinson's dad says that his son received more money than the typical 13th round pick. http://www.citizen-times.com/articl...decided?odyssey=mod|newswell|text|Frontpage|p

The younger Hinson looks to be quite excited at the opportunity to begin his career.

So the only real question on signing is our 3rd rounder? I wonder how much money he is wanting, hopefully not more than our 1st round pick :p

    Brian McTaggart:

Draft picks in Super Regional action tonight: Mitchell Lambson came on for Arizona State against Texas in relief of Lamar Consolidated product Brady Rodgers with 2 outs in the 7th, inheriting a 1st and 2nd situation with 2 outs. He worked his way out and proceeded to earn a save, striking out 2. He got 7 outs without allowing a Longhorn to reach. ASU defeated UT, 3-1.

Jesse Wierzbicki was also in action for North Carolina as they faced Stanford. The cleanup hitter, he went 1-4 and scored a run. UNC beat the Cardinal 5-2.

Oh, and breaking news from Brandon Meredith.

    Man, I'm approaching DD status...

Anyway, George Springer will be taking the field in about half an hour, as UConn will be facing South Carolina in game 1 of their Super Regional series.
