Tired of using the larger size laptop briefcases, especially through airports. So I'd like something fairly airport friendly, can also carry a Kindle, and reasonably comfortable and light for less than $80 if possible.

Looking at the Swiss Army (Wenger) Valve. Any other recommendations?

btw, the laptop probably won't be any larger that a 15.4 inch (currently a 14" Lenovo T410, also have a 13" ASUS

Zappos is a good estore to check out. They have an excellent return policy if the product is not what you want. I think you also have up to a year to return/exchange it and oftentimes they ship overnight at no charge.

I've used a Timbuk2 Commute messenger bag for the last 6 years and it's never let me down.

Depending on the size of the laptop, the bag I got from Toshiba could hold two. It could handle my 18 inch screen Toshiba and my 14 inch screen Acer. I believe this is it:

I regularly carry my 18 inch screen Toshiba, iPad, assorted cables, Bose headphones, and other items with no problem. I could easily replace the iPad with my 14 inch Acer.

    Actually, I missed that.

But I have had cheaper backpacks before which broke faster than this one (I have had it for four years or so).

What's your problem? The OP also inculded the phrase "if possible". Nothing wrong with giving the OP first hand knowledge of a bag that works. Lighten up Francis.

How bad does it suck to be somewhere and your backpack breaks? Sometimes it's better to spend more up front on quality. It will save you time, money and grief in the long run.

Seriously I'm not trolling you. This is a coincidence, really.

However, I don't get the fear of a backpack breaking angle. Wouldn't there be warning signs? And surely even if there weren't what's the likelihood of both straps breaking at the same time?

    Ha ha, no worries. :)

I'm talking about seams ripping out from weight/stress. Some stuff you don't notice.

It happened to me before- my laptop just fell out of the bottom of a cheap bag. Luckily it was on a couch.
