What are they doing that makes it seem like this is the case? Did they give more info about VS-13 or xiii-2?

There's an awesome video showing the fantastic graphics of Zelda WiiU. Nintendo is the only company that makes me shell out a couple hundred dollars to play about 4-5 games on their consoles. But I'll be damned if they aren't usually 4-5 of the best games of the generation. I'll be there for the WiiU as well, if Zelda/Mario/Metroid look anywhere as good as this tech demo.

Best news from E3 imo, $249 Vita and Dark Souls.

Didn't even realize Dark Souls is the spiritual successor to Demons Soul (my fav game this gen).

Not so much the towns or endings (I don't even care about the latter actually).

Just the responses they give in interviews. Just seems like they're very aware of the complaints (apparently they start laughing when hearing certain words, long before they get translated to Japanese). And even better, they seem intent on addressing all the complaints, at least in some form. Well...most of them anyway (I don't see them addressing any story complaints).

Here's one interview as an example:
    http://ps3.rpgsite.net/interviews/282-e3-2011-final-fantasy-xiii2-developer-interview
(I'd recommend reading the full thing if you're interested)

Still some bizarre comments (making simple towns like previous FF games is hard and boring...so we'll make something even more complicated?), but I think they get it for the most part (at least with gameplay).

XIII-2 might even be fun, the more I read about it. Really stupid story most likely, but what can you do? I enjoyed X-2 despite similar complaints.

So it just occurred to me.

With SH HD Collection, "Old Man" will be coming back to reclaim the graphics crown!

I still don't know how they pulled off the visuals in that game. A PS2 game that still looks better than a lot of 360/PS3 games.

Why did Konami have to destroy this franchise? :(

    New Uncharted looks really nice:
Note that's Uncharted Vita, not Uncharted 3. Also, I'm testing out using my Picasa account for images...so hopefully that shows up correctly and everything.

PSN game that seems pretty interesting:
    <iframe width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/cCQjUlHFUDo" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Maybe more interesting is the story behind it:
    http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/06/03/introducing-papo-yo-for-psn/
(might not want to read since he kind of spoils the theme of the game...I think?)

Random Dark Souls tidbit. Apparently they got rid of the mana bar, and you're limited to a certain number of uses for certain spells (think I noticed this in the videos). Prevents spamming magic attacks I think (or healing). I both love it and hate it. :(

E3 is pretty much over I guess. Kind of split. Conferences sucked big time. Guess Vita was OK (still needs more games), and new Nintendo console seems interesting (although lots of mistakes Nintendo seems to be making...are they still ignoring online?). But lots of awesome games on display. Love me some videos of Skyrim and Dark Souls. Yeah, BF3 too I guess. Plenty of good stuff outside of the big 3.

edit: I'll throw in some FFXIII-2 videos for those of you that want to feel conflicted like me.

Judging video of the worst main (offline) FF (or the sequel to it that no one asked for) might not be the best indicator for why people like Final Fantasy.

Although I'll say some of the videos do seem encouraging. They're trying to go with the Western RPG thing of giving players choices. I guess monster collecting is in, as is QTEs (maybe could have done without those...but battles aren't that much different to be fair). Persona rap music is hit and miss. You can say a lot of bad things about Square-Enix, but you can't ever complain about them never trying new things (yea! double negatives!). For better or for worse, every FF tends to be very different, at least in some ways.

People rip Nintendo. After the Kintectand the PSP Wiimote you should know that by now. Also as for the eye toy:

They all take from each other.

With stuff like the GBA complimenting games on the GC, Sony pursued something similar with the PSP and PS3 (e.g., use PSP as a "rear view mirror"). Along the way, they threw in the ability to use "Remote Play," essentially having the PS3 render the graphics, but streaming this to PSP. Nintendo took that idea and went even further. And chances are, if it takes off, Sony (and MS) will take it and add more to it. Not really a big deal, and we're probably all better off for it.

Sony does have problems taking advantage of a lot of their ideas and tech though. They nailed the casual gamer market long before Nintendo did with the Wii (Phil Harrison was big on this IIRC), but they did pretty much nothing to take advantage of it.

edit: Oh yeah, suppose to say something about the Dreamcast's VMU too I think. Did the PocketStation complement games too? I can't remember (well, it was Japan only).

It's gonna be an absolute nail in the coffin for Nintendo if that happens. The 3DS is a flop. They've got all their chips on the Wii U.

I figure by the time MS and Sony implement something like that (in the event that it takes off), Wii U would already have sold like 50M+ systems or something like that. Kind of like Wii. Then Nintendo could come back and give us some other crazy idea (I vaguely recall something that Miyamoto talked about shelving for future release, but I forgot what it was).

It is way too early to call 3DS a flop. People said the same about the DS around this same time in its early days. Not to say Nintendo hasn't made any mistakes (they've made plenty IMO), but I wouldn't really be worried about their business plan at this point. Especially since Sony and MS have shown their inability to take advantage of mistakes as well. I guess Apple and other traditionally non-game oriented companies could step in...but probably too early to think about that.

(Kind of wish Nintendo did go back to pushing the envelope a bit more with the graphics capabilities in their systems though.)

While most of the motion stuff doesn't get me excited, it does make me think the future of gaming could be really awesome. I imagine motion mixed with augmented reality and 3D type depth to make for an almost fully immersive experience.

That's probably a solid 20 years from actually being fully realized though.

I never knew the GBA interfaced with the Gamecube like that. As for Duck Hunt..... yeah that's not quite the same as Eyetoy. I was talking about the camera reading your movement sans controller a la Kinect.
