Is it acceptable for a true Rockets fan to root for Dallas?

Discussion in 'NBA Dish' started by ShutURBiG!, Jun 9, 2011.

?

As a Rockets fan, which team are you rooting for?

  1. The Dallas Mavericks: Dirk and Kidd deserve a ring and Houston still has one more championship.

  2. The Miami Heat: as a Rockets fan it is NEVER okay to root for a rival, ESPECIALLY a division rival.

  3. Neither: not a fan of either team. Rockets all the way.

It's a choice between the devil and the deep blue sea. I don't live in Houston nor am I a Texan. So I'll go for the "deep blue sea"

As a friend told me the other day "alot of people hate on the Miami Heat around the country. Fact is they are jealous, insecure fans, who cling to some "vague," ultimately unexplainable sense of sporting justice. Truth is every one of those fans would have shat their pants ten times over had Lebron called their team's name on TV. And the main avenue of attack for these haters is comparing him to Jordan. He isn't Jordan. He may not be able to win 6 by himself, but that was a different era."

Maybe it's difficult for you Houston fans, but as a Montana Rockets fan I know waaaaay more annoying Heat fans than Mavs fans. I'm rooting so hard to the Mavericks. **** Lebron.

Forget the Mavs, forget the Heat.

I'm rooting for good basketball. And through 5 games, we've gotten exactly that.

ah yes. kind of like how tinmac instantly labels any fan as not a true fan when they like t-mac.

man I own all of you guys! all you talk about is me! I appreciate it

no you can be a fan of tmac and a fan of the rockets, like tmac1 or tracymcgradyadidas

however i think the majority of the tmac fans here believe in this false reality

    1. it's never tracy's fault, it's his teammates or coaches
    2. tracy > kobe
    3. when a player accomplishes more than tmac, you get a thread " who's better prime tmac or [rose, durant, any other person who's done anything".
    4. tracy never quit on any team
    5. tracy would have accomplished more than this person or that person

Are you guys really bored? I can make a t-mac thread that will have you talking about me for the entire off season. you want one?

I do too. those were the best and most exciting first round exits in Rockets history! the announcing of his surgery right before Morey was going to trade him, the sports illustrated articles, the famous quotes"it's on me!". No other player in Rocket history will ever do that again.

Do you think anyone around here would hate the Jazz if we never lost a series to them? Jesus Christ, it should be obvious. The Jazz played the Bulls in the finals just like they played us, no Bulls fans talk about how dirty Stockton was.

I am grudgingly rooting for the Mavericks. I've always been a Kidd fan since I was at Cal when he was there and its unfortunate for him to get one Dirk and Mark Cuban but if the Mavs win Dirk deserves it. He isn't the soft euro player he was and his tough gritty performance (two words a few years ago I never would've associated with Nowitzki) have earned my respect.

I will never be a fan but I respect the Mavs a lot more than the Heat.

I would never challenge anyone's Rockets fanhood, but I can never root for Dallas unless they were playing against the Jazz. Kidd deserves a ring, but I can't support him for the reasons above. It is not acceptable to me,to see any Rockets fan rooting for Dallas.

22-game win streak, playoff appearances (which we wouldn't have made without t-mac), the 13 in 35, good times.

do you remember all of those? i guess not. :(

This was the matcup that i dreaded happening because I hate both teams with a passion. But the more and more the Heat act like douches the more I want them to lose.

I liked Dwade a lot but since the emergence of LeBron over there it's been worse and worse and I would rather Dallas win then see those fools with a ring.

It's all about the circumstances and this one entails me to root for the Heat to lose.

Seriously seein the poor attitude and mocking Wade and Bron do I don't see how anyone can not root for Dallas to beat Miami. I first liked the Heat when they announced the Big Three but right now it's just disgusting how these guys act and complain about everything.

I wish the Heat fans would cheer for the Mavs like the comrades cheered Rocky as he knocked out Ivan.

I root for the Mavs because:

-They're from the Western Conference, same division in fact, I would also root for a NL baseball team or AFC football team.

-I do not like LeBron's move to join the Heat. Whether the Cavs organization suck or not, he should be big enough to attract others to join him, not the other way around.

-The analysts are mostly pro LeBron, I'm looking at you Magic. Despite LeBron not showing up the past 5 games.

-Second appearance in the NBA Finals only to lose to the same team? That would suck.

    -I like Jason Kidd.

There's pretty much one thing that's unacceptable for a true fan of a sports team. That's rooting against your own team.

I've always liked the Mavs with Dirk on them. I wish he and Nash could have won a title together before Nash left via free agency, and I rooted for them when they played the Heat in 2006. I also went to school and used to live in San Antonio and have rooted for the Spurs over the years.

I understand people who don't like the other teams in the Rockets' division. I have a hard time understanding a Rockets fan ever rooting for the Jazz or Lakers. Although I don't quite hate the Jazz as much now that Sloan, Malone, and Stockton have retired, and Boozer and Williams are gone.

Strike that, I still hate the Jazz as much.

But if the Mavs or Spurs ever faced the Rockets, there is no doubt who I'm rooting for. The Rockets are my favorite team across all sports. I will always root for them. Once the Rockets are out of the picture, a true Rockets fan can pretty much root for whomever they want.

But...but...you have to be born in the 70's and watched the Rockets throughout the 80's and 90's to be considered a true fan!

    Oh I like that requirement!

To me a true Rocket fan respects the history of the organization as a whole and would never doubt any of it's accomplishments. Accept what happened not what coulda woulda shoulda happened.
