Biyombo has a 7 footers reach. You can be 5 feet tall as long as you can almost touch the rim standing flat footed.
Um. That's not what his coaches as his Spanish team believed, but I guess you know more than his coaches.
Because the coaching over there is about as lousy as it gets, and they don't play the same game as the NBA. In Europe, players that are semi successful over there, can't even sniff the brown and curlies of the end of bench players in the NBA because they suck so bad, and the coaching over there is about on the same level too. You can't take anything away from what is essentially a minor league to the NBDL... DD
i mean thats a strong stereotype though. ever since the human highlight film played overseas, and especially bums like bonzi wells and kirk snyder can put lebron type numbers overseas, its seems to be expected of american players to dominate
Euroleague is the 2nd best league in the world. Saying it is a minor league to the NBDL though, that isn't even close.
Because he is 18 in a leauge that favours veterans? However i do agree with you in that Biyombo is not really a center (probally could be effective in spot minutes though). If Bismack's potential is serge Ibaka, and Ibaka himself cannot handle Center, then what hope is there of Biyombo being a center?
Exactly. He has been a power forward for his career so far. I don't see why so many Rockets fans have suddenly changed his position to center.
The only thing that Ibaka and Biyombo have in common is that their both from the Congo, and both are athletic. Ibaka has a game more suited for 4, with his ability to knock down the mid range jumper. However Biyombo has the potential to have a better interior presence inside with his superior size(reach) and length. Truth be told at his current skill level the position best suited for Biyombo is Center. He's lack of offense isn't much of a problem at the 5 as it would be at the 4, where a higher skill level required. At the 5 he can concentrate on blocking shots and rebounding on the defensive end. While offensively he can concentrate on crashing the offensive boards, getting his points from mostly tip ins and put backs, as well as coming off the weak side for the occasional ally-oop. Dwight Howard, Emeka Okafor, Nene Hilario... All of these guys were considered 4 prior to entering the league, they all eventually made the transition to center...
Biyombo is no more than 6-8 to absolute max, 6-9 in shoes. He's 240-245 and even though people here seem to think he is 18, most people in Europe think he is really 23-24. Yeah, a center that is the same size as Carl Landry basically............
Veteran coaches do not analyze positions like keyboard warriors do. You are what you can defend... The best defensive C of the last 20 years was 6-8, 240.
Olajuwon Mutombo Mourning Ewing You are saying Ben Wallace was a better defensive force at center than them? Never mind that even Shaq and Yao affected the game defensively more than Wallace did in the paint area. Not overall, but in the paint. Sure.......he is in the discussion. I think we all know who the keyboard warrior is.
The reason why some slot him as a center is because he has a 7'7 wingspan and 9'3 standing reach. Which would be higher than the likes of Andrew Bogut, Emeka Okafor, Tyson Chandler, and 0.5" lower than Dwight Howard. In the NBA, shots are blocked with your hands, not your head.
