The Euroleague banned flopping years ago. It is absolutely absurd and ridiculous that this continues to be allowed in the NBA.
I remember 1 game, I think it was vs Boston this past season where Rick Adelman laughs his @$$ off from the bench as Martin flops his way to scoring over 20pts from the free throw line. I was like we are competing for a playoff spot coach what are you doing making it so obvious that we are cheating?
He is allowed to travel about 20 times a game and scores probably 80% of his points on travels. if they simply called traveling and also palming on him - which he does almost every time he touches the ball........ You would see real quick just how manufactured of a star he is. A a lot of guys can run and jump real well if they are endlessly allowed to travel and palm the ball. Sometimes LeBron can go almost the length of the court on 1 or 2 dribbles and not get whistled for traveling. Believe it or not, that makes the NBA closer to WWE than to any true sportive competition. Add in the free throws for guys like Wade and Dirk, which are for the most part completely off phantom calls, add in the flopping that the refs always allow, etc. Dirk and Wade shoot many free throws when they did an offensive foul. It reminds me of "prime Shaq", whose offensive game largely consisted of elbowing and bulldozing over the defender with egregious offensive fouls, only to have himself be award free throws. The NBA is a scripted soap opera, dictated by David Stern and his refs, and it has been ever since I can remember.

This should have been done ages ago. Then again - Maybe this is Sterns plan all along. Let this thing become contagious and a daily routine for players league wide. Then he can fine more players pretty much every game. Whereas if he nipped the bud when it was just starting there would be no chance for him to generate some extra revenue.
If you REALLY want someone to stop doing something, take money from them. That is the only way to get them to stop doing it. Take speeding on the road, for example. If you get a warning (technical foul, in the NBA), will you stop? Probably not. If you're written a ticket worth $70 (fined X amount of money), will you stop speeding? Yes.
The problem with this is the rest of the league thinks the exact same thing so all you get for him is a late 2nd round pick. Trae proposals on here are hilarious sometimes. Let's sneak one in with Kevin Martin before the other team knows what hit them. The will never see it coming! LOL
1) how is this not calling the game? he's commenting on something that just happened during the game. color commenting on **** that happens during the game isn't calling the game? 2) how can he shut up and call the damn game at the same time? is he going to sign it in the corner of the screen? I'm not saying Glen Rice aint the bomb but you're putting an awful lot of conditions on JVG, seems you'd at least let him talk in order to call the game The way to penalize them is to cost them games. Like with techs a certain number of flops and you're out a game. It's stupid to expect Stern to police this when he created the situation in the first place. For decades, Stern made it so that "star calls" yielded fouls for stars even when they initiated contact. It was only a matter of time before players realized that they dont even have to take the contact to get the foul when the league is run like the mob and they're made men. Between this and Lebron's 4 steps in the lane the league is really a joke. Fire Stern and send a message to clean this up.
The proposal is tape review. There is really no excuse that "it's too hard to call in game." Okay, if it's too hard in game, then review it afterward. Each flop counts as a tech. Accumulate enough and you get a suspension. It's such a simple solution, and of course makes too much sense for the NBA to do.
I agree a lot of the calls are difficult because they happen too quick, but I think many of those flops are so blatantly fake that even my grandmother with her limited eye sight can see it. A human body just should not fall the way they do from a simple touch foul.
I wish they would fine floppers after review either that or go back to calling the game like they did in the 80's and 90's before it became a foul to breathe on somebody.
Its not even the flopping that gets me, it's the rigged officiating. The NBA protects the officials so much they basecally predict the outcome of a game by making the obvious rigged calls. If you can fine a player for to many techs, flagrant fouls, disrespecting the official, etc. than I believe the officials should be fined as well for the poor obvious wrong call to dictate the outcome of a game.
I think you might still end up making some bad flop calls in game. Just as an example, I (along with everyone else) thought Bosh was being a floppy b**** in Game 3 when he crumpled to the floor after barely being touch. I would have called that a flop, but the fact that he spent the rest of the night with a swollen eye says otherwise.
True. Same here about the Bosh eye poke. I thought he was being a drama queen, but his eye was pretty messed up. I think the only way to do it is fines after the fact. There is no real way to tell a flop in the speed of live action. These guys act too well. I really can't blame the officials, when I can't tell either.
I'd say at least 10k fines. It affects the outcome of the game, as when it goes down the stretch, EVERY point matters. Not to mention the foul trouble it could cause. Looking at how bad Donaghy was punished for affecting games purposely, why aren't these guys punished?
