Good point. It could probably be a little bit of both. It wouldn't surprise me to see Martin or Scola moved as well and also being kept for a playoff run next season (if there is one). I wonder how many people on this board would trade the #14 pick to the Spurs for a player like Tiago Splitter?
If DM the GM really is interested in Derrick Williams, he has got to believe that he is a SF. How beautiful would a 3. Derrick Williams 4. Patrick Patterson combo be for the next 12 years?
DM the GM rarely reveals his hand. If we really do end up with the 2nd pick, I bet we trade down to nab Kanter + ______.
Mike (Houston)What are the Rockets plans? Is Morey trying to move up in the draft? Chad Ford (1:44 PM)Morey is always trying to move. He's one of the most active GMs in the league and I think, right now, virtually everything and everyone is on the table. As far as predicting their draft ... 14 is where things really start to break down ... lots of options ... Biyombo, Hamilton, Tobias Harris, Marcus Morris, Nikola Vucevic.
Your probably right and don't know if Popovich would want to trade with Morey after the grand larceny of the Luis Scola trade. I think the Spurs are at that point of either rebuilding or going one more year with the same squad. The 26yr old defensive Splitter could potentially be dangled to other teams in order to move up in the draft (just my opinion).
None of those really excite me. They viewed ppat as a top 6 in the draft and he still saw very low minutes in the first half of the season. I like Biyombo but PPat blocks shots at very effective rate.
Yes he was, just as Morey speculated. My point is that Morey knew he would be one of the best rookies and still told media that he expected to see very little of PPat due to the logjam at his position and a serious "push" with a Healthy Yao. Yao went down, Chuck moved to center. PPat got a chance, came up HUGE for the Rockets, and still only got 17 minutes a night. To take the organization by it's word and assume that we will compete next year, i don't see how the 14th best prospect(not my opinion) gets PPats minutes, ESPECIALLY after we add a replacement center and/or Yao comes back. I think Biyombo would be great if PPat wasn't soooo promising. Shareef Adur Rahim 2.0.
Derrick Williams would be a great move. As weak as this draft is, IMO Williams will be an all-star in the league. Scola (to Minny or 3rd team)+Hill+#23, I would even take on a bad contract if needed.
I don't think Minnesota is asking for much. I was thinking more like Courtney Lee #14 and #23 for #2Williams and Tolliver. They don't have a SG especially once with playoff experience would be considered a veteran in their eyes since they never make the playoffs. Derrick Williams in my humble opinion is the safest move. And knowing Morey he plays it safe in every draft. They have a log jam at 1, 3 and 4 with Rubio, Love, Johnson, Beasley, Randolph, Flynn, Ridnour, but they have no SG capable of starting. So they would not need Scola imo or Hill.
losing Scola or Lee in a package for Derrick Williams isn't that bad after all... After the two 9th seeds, i'm down with ANY roster tweaks
I'll be satisfied with Biyombo and Brooks even if Morey makes a small trade of the #23 to move up. But even Singleton going all out defensive with Biyombo and Singleton. I'm quite sure we don't stick to #14 and #23 knowing Morey we will move indeed up as much as possible.
IDK why everyone's so high on Biyombo! 2Pat's supposedly our 4 of the future. If Biyombo plays center, then you're still dealing with a 6-9 center. I suppose a 6-9,6-9,6-8 front court is better than 6-6,6-9,6-8 one; but not by much.
