Austin Rivers To Wear Number 0 At Duke, Dubs Himself 'Subzero'

    Incoming Duke freshman Austin Rivers has yet to play a minute in college basketball, but the No. 1 overall recruit (according to some rankings) already has a nickname ready to go when he takes the court for the Blue Devils.

    Yesterday, Rivers tweeted that he has picked the number he will wear on his jersey next season at Duke and the nickname that will accompany it:

    Wearing number 0 next year! My nick name is going to be subzero! Cause of number and because my moves freeze people, got ice in my veins!!

    i think he missed the part in high school where they explained that subzero means 'below zero' and not 'equal to zero'.

    Rivers chose his fate by going to Duke. People are gonna hate him no matter what. I'm surprised Coach K let him choose that number honestly; he had been saying no one would wear #1 or 0 for a while now. But I guess Irving started the change.

    I would love to watch Barnes vs Rivers next year, but you gotta think UNC will be the favorite with all their returning players (literally no one left, only their stopgap big man Kadeem Jack I think graduated) and the arrival of two top top prospects in McAdoo and Hairston. But that's the fun part about Duke UNC I think. It always goes back and forth. Duke had the edge the last two years, UNC the 2-3 years before that, and so on so forth. UNC can and should be preseason #1 this year.

    yea, I have really enjoyed this kid's game. I think he has a bold game and I was looking for to watching him take over at duke. I figure his father gave him some tenacity and credibility too. But if you are announcing your numbers and nicknames in college freshman year(this sounds like something lebron would have done), that is a scary sign. I ll give him benefit of the doubt this is one time error

    That is the point, I believe. He is the number 0. His nickname as he said is subzero, because he keeps the defense frozen, thus under his number or 'level'
