question for those who think "this is no big deal": do these sorts of peccadilloes, and similar financial ones by congresscritters and other federal officials (of this and previous administrations) give you any pause about investing more power in the hands of elected officials and their political allies, supporters, and assorted bureaucrats?
Huge differences between taking bribes for votes versus sending crotch shots to a woman. If you're using "weinergate" as the straw that broke the camel's back in terms of Govt negatives....you got an issue my friend.
i don't know basso, what did you have to say about the entire two years john ensign remained in office after it was reported he probably illegaly paid hush money to his mistress and her husband who both worked for him i'm searching for your thoughts but i seem to not be able to find any. tia
basso The eight or more Republican congressmen who accepted money and council from Ensign that are in power... Do you trust them less? Will you come out on record and say those Republicans should have less power?
I've been saying this throughout, but I don't find this to be similar to a financial scandal. So the obvious answer would be no.
Second question. If this stands as is, and there is no implication of any influence over policy, or financial misdeeds do you think this is a big deal?
I was asking, I have no idea of what happened or who that guy is. Guess I could google search but I'm leaning on the DonnyMost side of the situation as I stated.
this is a little late, I think someone posted his comments to jewish girls can't help but think, um lewinsky
question was about granting power generally to congress/politicians, when it's clear any number of them should not be wielding it.
No, these are human failings that exist everywhere there are humans, government, corporations, not-for-profits, everywhere. Do the sorts of peccadilloes, and similar financial ones by corporate officers and bankers give you any pause about investing more power in the hands of CEOs and Wall Street bankers?
Huma, pregnant: http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/06/08/weiners-wife-is-pregnant/ Weiner’s Wife Is Pregnant By MICHAEL BARBARO and ASHLEY PARKER Charles Dharapak/Associated Press Representative Anthony D. Weiner and his wife, Huma Abedin, in January. Their marriage has become the subject of intense speculation and scrutiny amid an embarrassing online sex scandal. Now, Representative Anthony D. Weiner and Huma Abedin are about to make news of a different kind: they are expecting their first child. Ms. Abedin, 35, is in the early stages of pregnancy, according to three people with knowledge of the situation. The pregnancy, which the couple has disclosed to close friends and family, adds a new dimension to questions about the future of their marriage. Mr. Weiner, 46, has admitted to engaging in salacious online conversations with at least six women over the last few years, including an incident last month in which he sent a photograph of himself in underwear to a college student in Washington state. He apologized to his wife and declared that they have no intention of splitting up. “We will weather this,” Mr. Weiner said on Monday, during his emotional news conference. “I love her very much, and she loves me.” But Ms. Abedin, a longtime aide to Hillary Rodham Clinton, has remained silent about the topic as she keeps up a hectic schedule at the State Department. Ms. Abedin returned to work this week and departed on Wednesday for a trip to Northern Africa with Ms. Clinton. A State Department spokesman declined to comment Wednesday afternoon.
what does that have to do with anything? I thought you were all about keeping people's family out of politics?
not sure i follow. i have not introduced his family; he did, or, if you're looking for a media scapegoat, the Times did.
it's news, and part of the larger story. unless you're suggesting that my cross-posting a story is somehow germane to the larger scandal, your point escapes me.
