While I'd love to see Yao back in Houston, I would love it even more to see him go to the Celtics and have one real shot at a ring before retiring.

    Yeah, agreed.

I'm not sure if the Celtics would be the best bet, but definitely a contender, where Yao can get a ring.

Returning to the Rockets, in its rebuilding stage, probably isn't the best move career wise for Yao at this point.

The Heat might be a better choice.

What a ridiculous sweater vest by Keith Jones.

That shows you the true mindset of the Houston Rockets franchise. Lets try to make other franchises better like Memphis did Lakers and Twolves did Celtics. Rockets will stay in the non playoff to 2nd round playoff caliber range as a team and fool the fans in making them think they are really contending for a championship.

I can't believe a player would come out and say that.

Yao is worried that he's going to be a cripple the rest of his life, and you're criticizing him for putting his health ahead of his career?

are you shocked & dismayed or charmed by the honesty?

Yao Ming hasn't played healthy in sooo long its kinda natural to temper his expectations.

I don't want to speak for Langhi...but I was surprised he said that, too. That's not criticism....but all his interviews before he'd say something like, "I can't wait to get out there...I'm gonna get well and come back and play." And the tone of this article makes me think he's more seriously considering retirement than I thought.

To me it just means that it's taking longer for this injury to heal than Yao expected and he's getting tired of all the rehab he's been through. That's understandable.

From someone else I would be upset at the honesty but you know there isn't a harder worker in the NBA than Yao. He is clearly rattle by his health.

That Yao still isn't healed yet pretty much ensures he won't be playing next year.

That statement was a refreshingly honest statement from someone who is looking at his life with a good sense of perspective.

I believe he's simply saying that, assuming health permits him to play again, he wasn't gonna go "ring chasing" by signing with, say, Miami Heat. If he can play, he will play with the Rockets.

If it were the case that Rockets management didn't want to take a flier (highly unlikely- these guys would never utter the word rebuild) on Yao, at least we'd have an outside chance to see Yao and Shaq manning the Celtics center spot together. It'd be one heck of a gimmick. I'm not sold on whether Shaq is retired for good. Kind of like the Rasheed deal except Shaq has a ton more ego.

It depends where everybody is healthwise in 9 months. Babies happen in 9 months. We just need some stupid little bones to heal.

Maybe he wants to play one more time so he won't end his career on such a downer.

However, if he wants to stop playing for the sake of his health and family then we can all respect that.

I have no problems with Yao looking out for his health and family first. It's also time for the Rockets to move on.
