That's true, but I also think that developers didn't go out of their way for the wii because the system was so much different from xbox/ps3 systems from a specs aspect. i'm not sure how much innovation will come about, but i'd imagine there could be some interesting additions to games that are also on xbox and ps3. The system cycle is an interesting aspect but I don't think it will make or break them. Are they too late to the party or are they early? It will be interesting to see how much powerful, if at all, this system is over the 360 and ps3. Yeah I thought that was a little odd. I think it's an interesting side note, but not enough to beat it to keep repeating it like they did. I thought there were some cool uses shown but I did want to see more. Not sure if they were purposely vague or just only had a limited number of ideas to show. The name thing is whatever to me. They can call it poopy pants for all I care, so long as it's good. I won't be an early adopter of this system, but I will watch with a great deal of interest in the quality of games that are released for it. I was hoping to be blown away in the conference. I wasn't shaking my head in disgust, but I did have a "that's it?" reaction. Maybe if the information hadn't been slowly leaked over the last month I would have had a different reaction. Or maybe Reggie just sucks at giving press conferences.[/QUOTE] I was hoping to be completely blown away as well but with the release at least a year away, i think it was hard for them to show too much as they A) don't yet have a lot to show on it in terms of games and capabilities and B) they still want to push the current Wii lineup and not completely overshadow it by the U.
IGN reviews the WiiU http://wii.ign.com/articles/117/1173582p1.html and here is a demo of Zelda HD the graphics look awesome: <iframe width="560" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/IUJFNpPVtbE" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Eh...Nintendo's conference didn't really impress me either. Should have (new console!), but it didn't. Pretty much agree with what ScriboErgoSum already said. To make matters worse, apparently Wii U won't upscale Wii games, controller doesn't have multi-touch, only works in the same room, and you can only have one (new) controller per console. Bleh. That can really limit some of the innovation I think...and I'm not even sure I'm completely sold on the general idea anyway. Also, wonder if this means that Remote Play will see more of focus? I might actually prefer that actually (could play anywhere). The 3rd party games lineup did impress me. Although it also occured to me that a lot of those games are scheduled for this year...and Wii U won't be out until next year...so not sure if those will do that well (unless they make some major enhancements...which if we're talking about EA...). On another note, developers sure can make a lot of money making the same game now. Can make 5 different versions of the same game now (PC/360/PS3/WiiU/Vita), and all pretty much with the same graphics/etc (not like making Madden on PS3, then putting out Madden PSP). E3 has kind of sucked. Guess Sony had the "best" one, though you could probably interchange them with Nintendo (either way, both were very disappointing IMO). Actually, publishers probably had much better conferences. Konami's was probably better (I only saw a little bit), and it was expected to be a joke. I already said GOG's was better. Apparently EA and Ubisoft had some decent ones. Oh yeah, about Beyond Good and Evil 2. Apparently someone on the team said it might end up being a next-gen game. So...keep waiting. Yea!
also from destructoid: so supposedly only one of those tablet controllers can be used at one time, that's disappointing if true. the tech demo on the nintendo e3 website seems to be hinting at it as well. so then what's even the point of that madden demo? one guy gets to secretly choose his play, the other dude has to do it on the big screen?
the one tablet only does seem a little weak. There should be at least 2 capable if you are playing a buddy in person. All i can think is that they are heavily weighted to solo/communal (sharing the remote)games with the tablet. With regard to a game like madden and FPS, they may be assuming that the bulk of these are played online and therefore don't have the need for 2 tablets. That makes sense, mostly....madden with a friend in person is common but overall, not as much as people play online (especially FPS). maybe they will be able to add another in the next year
I wonder if it is technical problem (something that could eventually be fixed), or maybe something a little more. Now that I think about it, guess it could be pretty difficult for the console to send out HD streams to multiple tablets, and also be able to interpret multiple forms of input from each tablet, all at once. Also, guess it would lessen any issues with "controller costs too much!" since you won't really need to buy any extra ones I suppose (assuming one comes with the console...which I'm sure is a safe bet). I wanted to post this earlier, but forgot (just another GIF I stole from NeoGAF): And Wii U! <iframe width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/UqNvWzh79-s" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
the HD aspect i can understand. I wonder if there would be a way to dumb it down if you have 2 tablets activated, e.g. for madden, if you choose a play on your tablet, do you really need a hi res? Love that movie...mmmmm momemto
That Zelda does look pretty good. Nice to hear that the controller is comfortable though. In pictures it looks a little awkward.
Yeah, I thought it looked a bit awkward too, but definitely good to hear otherwise. Then again, I would expect as much from Iwata, Miyamoto, etc. Can't imagine this would have gone anywhere if it wasn't somewhat comfortable. Replying to some posts I missed because I was too lazy to read the whole thread earlier... Was at the Sony conference for sure (talked about Move and Vita support IIRC...plus Ken Levine mocking Kinenct/Move/Wii before saying how awesome motion controls can be). Probably some additional footage here and there, maybe some previews. I haven't had a chance to check out everything, but it definitely has had a presence at E3. <iframe width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/Da_ilsDln90" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> I loved FF12 too. Even though they almost ruined it (sounded a lot better before higher ups at Square got involved), so could have been a bit better I guess. This is the same company that thought the concept art from the game didn't look like "Final Fantasy," so they must not think highly of the game. I was hoping FF13 would improve upon it too, but unfortunately not. Also, apparently Jack Tretton seemed to imply that PSV may not launch in the US this year. He seemed to emphasize the launch "by end of fiscal year in all regions" plan rather than committing to a US launch by the end of the year (if anything, seems only Japan would get it). Bleh. I guess they could still be trying to work out production estimates and stuff, so they probably don't even know what will happen. Also, Agent may no longer be PS3 exclusive. I'm surprised it is still in development period. They really need to stop announcing games 4+ years before release. Good job Jeremy.
DARK SOULS GAMEPLAY <iframe width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/1563hgmh0uU" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> BEST E3 EVER!!!!!!!!!! GREAT JOB JEREMY!
Wii U looks like a total flop. Only one controller is allowed at a time, what is even the point of that then? Plus, at the rate Nintendo is charging now (3DS at 250) the Wii U will likely be overpriced as well. PSVita at $249 was the biggest and best news at E3 imo.
The controller tablets aren't HD, they're standard so I don't know how they could dumb it down anymore.
I just thought about this: Wouldn't it be easy for Sony to replicate most of Wii U's features with Vita? And, since Vita's practically another computer, they won't have to be limited to just one per console.
The multi-touch thing could be miscommunication (only source seems to be confirmation from Reggie in a post-conference interview, "Controller not multi-touch"), but seems pretty definitive. One controller per console definitely looking to be the case. As I was speculating earlier, sounds like you won't be able to buy a controller separately: http://www.vg247.com/2011/06/08/wii-u-controller-wont-be-sold-seprately-confirms-nintendo/ Pretty much. PSP could already do a lot of it. Well...guess even older platforms too. Still run into similar problems depending on the exact implementation I imagine (you are limited to one PSP per PS3...IIRC). Vita would be nice since you could also take the game outside of the house (e.g., play away from the console). Of course...this likely won't be a huge focus for Vita, Sony, or developers, so wouldn't really count on it actually doing a lot of those things (also, $250 per "tablet"). For Wii U, it is the whole point, so you'll see it being used a lot more. It's not because of the hardware though, which is the case with Wii U since they're just streaming to the controller. I think consoles in the future will just be hubs. Everything on console, now, will be on handheld. The processing power barrier has definitely been shattered. The console will shift to party games that need servers. A general application would be to stream to a TV. Ex. Madden - everybody'll have their own Maddens on their handhelds and connect to a console which can stream the game to a TV. Same with 2K and any other handheld. Other people can control the camera on the TV stream and check box etc. Considering the Vita's got front cameras, too, you can also show the faces of the players on TV. IMO, I think it's feasible now with the PS3.
Nintendo Admits It Used PS3 and Xbox Footage in Wii U Presentation http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2386582,00.asp Not really a huge issue since there was little time to develop any game clips, but will definitely be used as fodder.
