in his defense, everybody's attitude in this thread is pretty sour. except for maybe me, the lone optimist. woot. (nvm I'm pissed about murrica caring about penis over substance too)
We should not hold pro athletes to the same standard as publicly elected and publicly paid officials. I think that it would be silly to do so. Stuff with clergy is about a million times worse than Wiener. And people have gone to jail. Priests who commit cardinal sins should go to jail. Wiener should provably resign in the best interests of his party. He will be a constant distraction and probably tossed his political career down the drain. No we are not a nation of Puritans. Just because a lot of people think he made a fool of himself and will not vote for him ever again does not make them some sort of religious fundamentalist.
i think he should resign, but that doesnt mean i think its the end of the world. i live in texas - it doesnt affect me at all. that being said, his career is over - he needs to go away and let everyone else move on...simple as that. and as i said, the cover-up is worse than the crime. the pics themselves, while very embarrassing, are not worthy of resigning over. i will say however that you have to be totally shameless to continue being in the public eye after this. again, its not the pics - it is the lying, playing the victim and the indignation towards the press. he shamelessly lied his ass off for 10 days. he didnt go into hiding - he volunteered himself for interviews and lied to the nation. he is a narcissistic, jackass liar w/ no credibility. the unfortunate thing is that weiner was one of the few politicians i actually liked - he seemed like an honest, straight up dude who told it like it is. i liked the fact that he would get fired up and call people (republicans) out on their hypocrisy and bulls*** lies. so for me, when someone who i actually respected conducts himself in the manner that he did if forever taints (pun intended) him in my eyes.
I appreciate our puritanic intolerance. We don't have to wait until a politician chases a maid down the hall naked, or pays for sex with a minor before we start hearing about how we should have seen it coming with all his heavy come-ons to female journalists or bunga-bunga parties. Guys like Strauss-Kahn and Berlusconi will have embarassed themselves out of office well before they merit criminal prosecutions.
the ketchup and mustard moment of happiness is sublime. <iframe width="853" height="510" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/CEwIkjPDudw" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Sums up my thoughts about Weiner: Spoiler I really liked him, too. Oh well... ****ing politicians, bro.
I agree with you and I've enjoyed some of the comments this guy has made in the past however what kind of a dirtbag sends pictures of his junk to strange people on the internet? It's behavior I would expect from a teenager or something, not a US Congressman. And I realize the only difference between Weiner and probably sixty or seventy percent of the people in Congress is that Weiner got caught but I wouldn't want someone who would do something like that representing me in anything.
lol, reads like something from a high school nerd on AIM http://www.radaronline.com/sites/radaronline.com/files/Wiener-Facebook-Transcript-Watermarked.pdf Spoiler <a title="View Wiener Facebook Transcript Watermarked on Scribd" href="http://www.scribd.com/doc/57341275/Wiener-Facebook-Transcript-Watermarked" style="margin: 12px auto 6px auto; font-family: Helvetica,Arial,Sans-serif; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; font-size: 14px; line-height: normal; font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal; -x-system-font: none; display: block; text-decoration: underline;">Wiener Facebook Transcript Watermarked</a><iframe class="scribd_iframe_embed" src="http://www.scribd.com/embeds/57341275/content?start_page=1&view_mode=list&access_key=key-15g2ksemhs0pzpdd81pe" data-auto-height="true" data-aspect-ratio="0.772727272727273" scrolling="no" id="doc_35694" width="100%" height="600" frameborder="0"></iframe><script type="text/javascript">(function() { var scribd = document.createElement("script"); scribd.type = "text/javascript"; scribd.async = true; scribd.src = "http://www.scribd.com/javascripts/embed_code/inject.js"; var s = document.getElementsByTagName("script")[0]; s.parentNode.insertBefore(scribd, s); })();</script>
You seem to be misinformed over a few facts of the case IMHO are the one telling people how they should feel about a lying, a-hole politician. His reaction to being caught was playing the part of a victim then lashing out and blaming the media. Your initial reaction was lashing out at those posting about this and saying it is a crazy ridiculousness accusation. Now you have shifted to it doesn't matter. If you had the "It doesn't matter" attitude from the start of the thread, I think more people would be willing to accept it.
Probably a few things, yes, as I haven't paid much attention to it, as it's not an issue that matters to me. At least my interest in it looks downright nonexistent compared to, say, basso. As you can tell from my earlier posts in the thread, my suspicion of this story was directly related to lack of information. Which, at the time, painted a picture that made little sense to me. Eh, they're telling me how to feel just as much. I think you must have missed all of my posts explaining how I don't really care much to change their minds, and that their values are their own and I'm cool with that. I maintain it's not a topic worth attention, but I never "lashed out" at any poster for talking about it, nor did I lash out at anyone because of how unlikely I thought this scenario was. The only "lashing out" I did was to this post by basso. An extremely tired example of partisan whining about bias against a well-known liberal poster who does anything but pretend to be fair. (mcmark is more concerned with republican scandals than democrat scandals?? NO WAY!!!) The irony of course, is this is the best example of the pot calling the kettle black in recorded history. I haven't "shifted" to anything. It has been my feeling from the beginning that it didn't matter (in fact, it has been my feeling that stuff like this doesn't matter since the Lewinski scandal, if you want to get technical about it). Being suspicious of a story and believing that it doesn't/shouldn't matter are not mutually exclusive. Honestly, you guys have known me for years. You have a pretty good grasp on my morals and values, if you are surprised that this stuff isn't important to me/doesn't bother me... or think I'm being disingenuous when I say that... then you probably haven't been reading my posts.
