That's disappointing. I don't really need complete copies of my library on multiple computers, and I'm not sure if it's worth the cost just to use it as a backup service. The cost of the new OS was a nice surprise though, $30 for the upgrade is a steal. The fact that iOS 5 will be released this fall pretty much confirms that the updated iPhone will be released then.
agree with you about iTunes. I absolutely hate iTunes and how you manage music with it. Fortunately for me I dont really listen to mp3's so I do almost everything on my iphone 4 and ipad 2 and rarely ever connect it to itunes except for firmware upgrades. With that said I still think apple makes the best hardware in terms of build quality. The new andriods are looking pretty tempting though but as of right now apple still offers the best value in my opinion. I acutally don't think its more expensive. If you buy a comparable business notebook that is not cheap crappy plastic it costs just as much if not more than a macbook pro.
Friday I got an invite from Google and used it over the weekend. Works fine. Took a while to upload the music.
I'm curious why iTunes ruffles so many feathers. I admit, its integration with other things I have/use make me hesitant to trust a third party at times, so I ask... what is it that other music players/organizers do so much better than iT in some of your opinions?... at the risk of divergence. I guess it's bloated in that it does more than just play music, but I don't know that makes any of it unusable/ less usable for me (works fine, does what I expect and then some... ?) . Is it just PC users who dislike it, or are there people on both sides that feel this way? Just curious, i hear a lot of that, especially around here.
I'm curious as well. My music goes into iTunes, and from there to my 16gb iPod. What makes other players so much better?
iTunes sucks if you have multiple computers or if you want to reimage your computers. It sucks that you can't see everything that you have bought in the past and redownload it easily. I hate that it messes with the file\folder\naming conventions that I prefer. I also hate it because it is completely unnecessary. Everything that is in iTunes is in the cloud and there is zero reason why we have had to deal with the ****ty freaking app for this long. Not having to deal with that stupid app is better than them releasing a new iPhone.
Sooooo....maybe I'm missing something, but when I moved from my Toshiba laptop to my MacBook, I just backed up my music (and everything else) to an external HD and then loaded it into my MacBook. I haven't used the App Store for much, but I'd swear it keeps track of everything I've downloaded.
As a 3G owner who got completely screwed by iOS4 I'm doubtful I'll even bother upgrading my 3GS to iOS5.
iPhone users have had the capability of notifications for quite some time now. This would not be a "new" addition to my iPhone. Jailbreaking FTW.
As a 3GS owner, I hope that iOS5 is fully featured on my phone. Of course, I see no reason why notifications or using the volume button as a camera shutter would require much more horsepower than already needed. I saw the justification that the 3G couldn't handle multitasking, though. I have fingers crossed that my 3GS can still get Apple-love for at least another year.
The iTunes match thing is interesting. You pay $25 and essentially "legalize" all of your music collection. So you can have 1000s of torrented songs and just pay $25 and all your music is legal? Or am I reading this wrong?
The intent is to allow a match between the music you legally bought on CDs and ripped into iTunes. This prevents you from having to upload that music to iCloud and waste some of your space. I am not sure how Apple plans to handle the thieves that have stolen music.
iTunes is a free app and people b**** like there is no tomorrow. I've never had a problem with it or a reason to explore other options. Add in the remote app that is also free on the iPhone, and an apple TV hooked up to a receiver and some speakers and video source and you can use the home play feature to stream movies and music from any device in the house.
Apple's usually original with the stuff they go with... this is the first time I've seen them really take something from another OS because of the demand. Speaks so highly of how great the notification system is on Android. Lion looks nice, glad there's no disc for it so I can just update it through the Mac App Store but for $30 it's definitely worth the upgrade. I had the dev version of Lion, it's neat with the whole mission control and being able to swipe away from windows.
Apple worked out deals with all the labels before launching. I think they were hammering them out up to even as soon as a couple of weeks before WWDC. So I'm pretty sure they were well aware. The matching service has a charge, so I'm sure the labels are looking at it like they are going to get something for the pirated music, I suppose.
