Refute that fact. If you can.

    lol !!!

i don't know if he will be a great coach or not, but i do know that he will give a full effort next season. which is more than i can say for some other coaches..

also, since we are here, i would just like to reiterate -

rick adelman is NOT a hall of famer.
kevin mchale IS a hall of famer.

rick adelman has ZERO championship experience.
kevin mchale has THREE championships experience.

refute those facts if you can !!!

    Isiah Thomas?

    http://www.basketball-reference.com/coaches/

Here's a list of NBA coaches in the entire history of the league, the ones with * next to their name are Hall of Fame players, I believe.

Some have been very good, others not so much.

So you are saying looking at history, some were good some were bad. Score 1 point for Carl Herrera. But not the answer I was looking for.

Sorry, I don't think I understand what you are getting at (and doubt that many here do).

Very simple. The thread title is a statement. Many may think it is flawed in logic. So refute it. You offered one reason, really it wasn't a reason more of a counter-example, but it was acceptable. Now I am waiting for more actual reasons why someone would disagree with the statement.

Different sport but just look up Ted Williams' resume as a manager in Baseball.

    or

Look up Magic Johnson's stints as the Lakers' coach.

Point already made by Carl Herrera. You listed more examples, not reasons.

    1 point deduction for rockets934life!

Wow, I was going to start an exact OPPOSITE thread, that most hall of fame players make pretty bad coaches because they expect their players to be able to see the floor or play like they did, when most average players are not able to do that.

Most of the best coaches that played in the NBA were role players, Rudy T, Phil Jackson, Jerry Sloan, Lenny Wilkens...some were good players but few were GREAT players.....

I think McHale may qualify as he was not a Superstar player, just a really good one, who got by on brains, it just remains to be seen.

Not a bad thread, just opposite thinking......lol...which is par for the course with you and me CX...

    :)

I don't think you get to be the arbiter of what's a good or bad argument. I guess we'll see if he's good or bad -- or not, since people don't seem to be able to come to any consensus as to whether a coaching job we've all witnessed was good or bad.

I think he'll be a good coach for our bigs, at least. I'll give you that.

I think you misunderstood. I am no arbiter, just proposing a challenge.

Obviously there are some misunderstandings in this thread, even though the instructions were quite simple. I never said I actually agreed with the thread title. If you can refute it. DO IT.

With a softy like this you'd think the McHale skeptics would hit it out of the park. Here's a hint:

What does being a HOF player have to do with one's ability to coach?

    One word answer.

I hear what you are saying, but I've never thought of Rudy T and Lenny Wilkins as role players. For much of the 70's, Rudy was the Rockets biggest star player and was a five time all-star. He probably would have made the all-star team a couple of more times if not for his near fatal injury. I confess that I may be a little biased when it comes to Rudy. Also, Lenny Wilkins was a great player that made the the all-star team nine times, he also was selected as one of the top 50 NBA players of all-time in 1996.

I think it's important to remember that there many more role players in the NBA than superstar players, so it's not surprising that many of the best coaches would be role players.

    BINGO!

    God bless you.

Or more accurately, I would say "Very little".

An even better way to put it would be,
"AS MUCH AS BEING A BAD GM."

    Lock it up. /thread

so I should go work for the rockets since I don't know jack crap?

mchale had HOF footwork, and apparently likes to work with his big men. I'm sure that won't mean anything.

The fact that he was a GM at NBA level. That's worth 0 too. Heck I could use the direction of my sons turds to make decisions, and would have more wins than mchale did with al jefferson. Mchale is total garbage.
