Just because it will be called doesn't mean it isn't a cheap way to get freebies, my point is the rule should be changed... it encourages the wrong kind of play. If they can make judgment calls on defensive players (did he "make a play on the ball?") then they should make the same judgment calls when deciding to award foul shots to offensive players ("did he make a play on the basket?"). Kidd didn't make a play on the basket, Wade was defending, jumping when they go to shoot is a natural reaction and a perfectly reasonable basketball play. Throwing yourself into your defender without any intention of making a play on the basket, or creating a pass, etc, is not only lame... but dangerous (Wade jumping to make a block isn't anymore dangerous than any other defensive play, Kidd deliberately throwing himself into him without any semblance of an attempt to avoid the contact or score the basketball IS dangerous and unnecessary)... change the rules. Edit: you know what, nevermind. there already is a rule about this. if you're on offense and you create contact deliberately and unnecessarily in the act of "shooting", then you can be called on it. trying to pretend this game has been even is pretty funny. i might be going a little (maybe a lot) overboard in this thread, but it's comical that dallas has more free throws and almost twice as many foul calls their way, no two ways about it. just on random good/bad calls if you played this game with the same actions over again 1000 times i can't imagine more than about 2 or 3 would be more imbalanced in terms of free throws/foul calls for the mavs.
that's not a charge on dirk? are you f'ing serious??!!! and then a no call on the next possession for lebron. this isn't even close. and more free throws for dirk. wow.
