Everyone in this draft has question marks, but I would not be surprised if Biyombo falls out of the lottery and possibly into the late first round. He is very raw and undersized. Yes, he is supposed to have a good motor, but it does not make up for his lack of experience or skill. If he cannot play center (which I think is quite likely), then he is a Bo Outlaw clone... and not that special.
As much as i would like for it to happen, Biyombo will not fall out of the lottery. He probably won't even get past ten.
Mmm... Biyombo can do more things with a ball than what apparently people thinks. He's not that bad. He can play the PF because he has shooting touch and lateral quickness. Ibaka is playing PF, so he can play PF too, he's probably a little bit quicker than Serge. Should develope a good/decent 15-20 footer in a few years/months.
Wouldn't he be more like Dirk Nowitzki then than any European prospect this year? And please let me know of the last European big man prospect that was good at defense. Ibaka doesn't count since he's not European. I mean, even Valanciunas who is supposed to be tough is going to get called for like 9 fouls per 36 minutes next year. So I think we can work around that aspect of Motiejunas if his offensive game is good enough.
Every time I watched Motiejunas, he disappointed me. No for Donatas (he'll never be near Nowitzki's level).
His draft value in large part hinges on whether he is a center, I don't think he is... however I respect your valuation of players... so who knows.
Oh come on Nook, this topic has been beaten to death. There's nothing that points toward Biyombo not being able to play center in the NBA . Sure the guy measured 6'9, but he more than makes up for it by possessing a 7'7 wingspan and most importantly a 9'3 standing reach. His standing reach is most notably superior to Andrew Bogut, Emeka Okafor, Joakim Noah and Tyson Chandler, some of the most effective defensive center's in the league. Combine that with his mobility and overall freakish athleticism, and you have one hell of a defensive anchor at the middle.
Ad the fact that he has the heart of a lion and is non stop hustling and you have a defensive Carl Landry.
Javtokas is outstanding at defense. He would be one of the very best post defending centers, if not the best in the entire NBA. He just never wanted to leave Europe. There are plenty of centers in Europe that are good at defense. Glyniadakis is great at defending the rim and paint. Vazquez is an excellent weak side shot blocker and team defender (something like a Camby type). And so forth. In the NBA a guy like Tyson Chandler is considered a good defender at center. In the Euroleague Tyson Chandler would be considered a bad defensive player.
I am actually hoping he makes it to #14 so that we can get him there, but doubt he will. He is starting workouts this week i believe. Once teams see the sessions, his stock will begin to rise again.
To be honest, I've only watched him 3 times, 2 ACB games (he only played 14) + the Nike Hoop Summit game (plus youtube videos). That's a small sample, so I could be wrong. At the same time I think it's enough to see that he can finish plays very well (because he has good hands and is extremely athletic) and he's more coordinated than some may think. Another strength: very quick moves -for a big man- near the basket. And his touch is not bad. Here you have him trying some mid-range shots: <iframe width="560" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/S4hBmPNb944?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="425" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/pj-MlIB9RNA?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
I'd like to see rockets trade up and get Biyombo. I'd really want Kanter but just don't see Morey giving up that much, but we'll see. Maybe a trade like Scola, T-Will, and #23 for #7 from Sac and draft Jordan Hamilton at #14, and then Shelvin Mack at #38. SAC gets a veteran in Scola already under contract with Dalembert most likely leaving in the summer, T-Will gives them an athletic SF, and they can draft a PG at #23 to pair with Evans(maybe Reggie Jackson or Charles Jenkins). HOU gets a defensive center in Biyombo, Hamilton gives us another scorer to take the scoring load off Martin, and Mack gives us a quality backup PG with Dragic in his last year. Then re-sign Hayes and look forward to the season with Kevin McHale at the reigns. Way too much time on my hands but I think it's fair for both sides. Lowry, Dragic, Mack Martin, Lee Hamilton, Bud Patterson, Hill Biyombo, Hayes, Thabeet, Miller .
His game seems more like a 3/4 to me.... but I count the number of times I have seen him play on one hand.
(Sorry... I wasn't enough clear). Yes Nook, he surely can play center in the current NBA: has the reach & athleticism to rebound and change shots like a center, and has the frame to add some weight and become bigger to defend on the block or fight for rebounds. Joel Anthony could be soon the starting center of the NBA champions and Biyombo has even more wingspan and athletic ability than him, so... What I mean is that he can success perfectly as PF. Certainly, I don't understand that center or bust theory.
Okay the fundamental aspect that people need to get through their heads is that just because he has long arms + average hops does not mean he can man the Center position at 6'8 - and hes not a ben wallace/chuck hayes tyoe 6'8 either. If biyombo is a good nba center, than patrick patterson is a superstar one.
Not necessarily. At 18 yrs old, Biyombo is pretty strong at 6'9 240lbs. He has shown that in all of the videos that i have seen of him. In one video that i put up in the Biyombo thread, he pushed 6'10 Mirotic around like nothing. I also think that he would do ok at center in the NBA. He won't be dominant or anything like that right away, but he won't get pushed around like maybe someone like Hill might either. In a couple of years in the league, he would be manning the paint easily. He has shown that he has a good work ethic already. Couple that work ethic with a little experience( and big man training that Houston is well known for) and we are talking about a very good one two punch at our 4 and 5 with him and Patterson on the floor at the same time. Just throw him out there and let Chuck rough him up a bit. He'll catch on quick.
