Damn, Morey really wants his diversity here. And I'm surprised McHale hasn't named some guys he knew. Or maybe these are.

I don't know about Persons beyond the fact that announcers kept saying he was the Rifleman while Hakeem was beating the crap out of Robinson. Maybe he can teach Patterson a 3 point shot?

i thought they wanted assistants with experience since mchale has next to none.

i get the concept that the numbers morey crunches will be doing a lot of the strategic planning, i even get the idea that they may be ok with taking a few steps back and rebuilding through the draft. however, its would still be unnerving to have such an inexperienced staff.

i hope they don't take person seriously.

Person was an assistant with the Pacers and Kings as well.

I think they want developmental folks along with the crackerjack strategists.

He has been in the NBA for 25 years as a player, in the front office, and as a coach. He was an assistant coach under Rick Carlisle in Indiana, Phil Jackson in LA, and Westphal in Sacramento.

He's going to teach our player how to properly celebrate after making a 3 (or a 2, in fact)

No Rocket has a memorable made-basket celebration. Except maybe for Scola and Miller and each of them just has one move.

Why is Dave Joerger and Melvin Hunt worth a post but Chuck Person not?

Getting assistant coaches is the first thing on McHale/Moery's to do list right now, no?

If you have a problem with Carl Herrera's threads, or their titles, you have a problem with yourself. There, I said it.

i misread the article when it said this was his first year (with the lakers).

i think person would make a good player developer, or 3rd assistant. i am still not confident in his ability to be the defensive coordinator.

    Chuck Connors Person

    The Rifleman.

I didn't even know he was coaching. Well, gotta trust Morey, I guess. Don't really have a choice. :)

[rquoter]LOS ANGELES -- After meeting with new Los Angeles Lakers head coach Mike Brown on consecutive days late last week to interview for an assistant coach position, Chuck Person is keeping his options open.

    <!-- end inline 1 -->
Person traveled to Houston on Sunday and will interview with the Rockets for a position on new head coach Kevin McHale's staff on Monday, according to multiple sources.

He previously interviewed for the head coaching vacancy in Golden State, as well.

Person, 46, spent the last two seasons as an assistant under Phil Jackson in L.A., assuming the responsibility of implementing a new defense for the Lakers in the second half of the 2010-11 season.

Person retired in 2000 after 13 seasons in the league. He served as an assistant with Cleveland, Indiana and Sacramento before joining the Lakers.[/rquoter]

Expect Chuck Person to take Lakers assistant job under Mike Brown. That would help, esp if Michael Malone takes $ from Warriors.

Sounds like we can cross Person off the list.

Not suprising, Chuck wants to be treated like a person, not an asset.

Developmental folks are important, but McHale has his shortcomings as a coach. There isn't a single crackerjack strategist on the team right now.
