Donatus is definitely a darkhorse for the 14 considering Morey's well documented scouting trips to Europe and the high risk high reward prospect that is Donatus. I'd love to have him honestly. He was at one time considered a toss up with John Wall for last year's number one wayyy back in the day. I don't know why he's fallen so far in this year's projections. He'd be a nice change of pace with PPat for the next decade.
What do you think about Tobias Harris? Seems very mature and motivated for an 18yo from his interviews, like a Patrick Patterson. And his game resembles a little Caremlo, most of his stats and %s are close too per minute.
I don't know too much about him to be honest, but his 3PT% does worry me a bit. Obviously he's still young and could always improve that, I just don't think the "SF who can't shoot the three" is the ideal player for us (not a big fan of Thaddeus Young for the same reason). I'll have to do a bit more research on him.. the Carmelo comparison is intriguing (also a poor 3PT shooter I'd love to have, obviously) and I know several posters here like him an awful lot.
He wants to compare himself with Melo but I think he's a different kind of player. Still, a very interesting player. Morey: I don't know how serious you'll get this knowing my origin, specially having already shown some love for other europeans of this draft, but I really like Bertans and I think he can be something special. People know that he's a 6-10 guy who can shoot it, but he's actually more than a shooter, he can score over dribble, put the ball on the floor, rebound, dunk it... He has a Kevin Durant game. No doubt that I would pick him at the 2nd round; what I'm weighing is if I would do it with the 23rd pick. I let you a video of the last U18 Euro. He's 17 years old here: <iframe width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/4XHssDGOq38?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
If we got a Center prospect out of our 14 (or used our 14 to trade up for a C or however we did it), I would have no issue if we decided to take Bertans at #23. He's young and talented and with some good development, he could be a really good player in the league. It's not common you can get a guy of his height and ability. Still, I think the most pressing need for our team is a defensive center.
But at 23, I don't think we will find a better prospect at center than Thabeet... Singler? Hoenycatt? Brooks? Selby? You talk about Nogueira or Tyler?
I would take Biyombo. But there's pretty much a 90% chance that Biyombo doesn't slip past the Pistons. A Biyombo and Monroe front court would be to intriguing to pass on. There's Nikola Vucevic.. Vucevic is one hell of interesting prospect. Measured a legit 7'0, and a shade under a 7'5 wingspan. He can stretch out the defense with his shooting, has a developing post game, good overall skill set. Can even alter shots, based on his length alone. He lacks athleticism, but has the size and length to make up for some of that lack of athleticism.
Yea, his shot is completely flatfooted and pretty awkward in general. Mostly what intrigued me about him was his demeanor, especially for someone so young. Usually that has more bearing on their ability to improve and develop as players, or get better at something like shooting.
I like Donatas at 14, but there have been questions about his lackadaisical work ethic and his enthusiasm for the game of basketball. This is the reason why his stock is dropping so.
Those are some pretty good trade scenarios in your sig. Only one thing though. Maybe something like Martin and Hill to Minny for Flynn, Milicic, Randolph and the #2 pick would be more enticing.
Shermadini plays in the Euroleague, not the Georgian League: http://www.euroleague.net/competition/players/showplayer?pcode=001386 The Euroleague (at the very worst the 2nd best league in the world) is much, much better than the league Tyler plays in (Japan's version of the D-League).
He has solid numbers in the Euroleague. Averages 7.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1 block per game in only 15 minutes per game. He also shoots over 70% and almost 85% from the free throw line. I really hope the Rockets take a look at him now. I wonder what his adjusted per 40 stats would look like?
