The only problem I've really had with Comcast internet is that I've had to go into one of their retail locations every 3 years or so and swap out for a new modem. I actually just did it this week for the first time in a while. After getting the new modem I'm consistently getting over 20 mbps down.

Switched from Comcast to U-Verse earlier this year. Put simply, I ain't going back. I had a heck of a time finding a wireless router that worked *consistently* with the Comcast modem, driving me near insane. Even when I shelled out for a nice one, I'd have to reset the modem regularly. U-Verse's wireless Gateway hasn't given me a single connection or slowness issue in the five months I've had it. Mbps is not a concern for me, but I have no problem downloading multiple torrents at a time with U-Verse, and I don't have the premium Internet package. The U-Verse DVR holds many more programs than my old Comcast box and can record more shows at once. Additionally, I can watch the recorded shows on any TV in my house. AT&T also has live-chat customer support on its website, which is my preferred option, although I've never had to use it.

When I had Comcast, I'd have to endure periodic cable outages for unknown reasons. I'd call 'em up and a recording would tell me, "There's an outage in your area. We're working on it!" It could last 15 minutes or four hours. I've had no such problems with U-Verse.

Crap, I had this same experience but thought a nice modem router would put it to bed. I just got the email that amazon shipped my modem also. :(

Maybe you'll be lucky and it will work out OK. Good luck.

My problem with Comcast was reliability. The internet connection would go down almost on a regular basis. I got used to it. Nothing we/they tried prevented it from recurring.

Weird that so many of you have had problems with Comcast internet. I really haven't had any in the 8 years or so I've been with them (TWC then Comcast.) And that is at 3 different houses. I've heard their TV service can be spotty which is why I never got it, but I've had very few problems with their ISP offerings.

i agree.I've always had a good connection with Comast. I like cable and FIOS internet.

however, If anyone is just looking for DSL and is willing to sign a 1 year, here are some good offerings

    http://oplink.net/dsl/

I've had them before for a year, really good with latency.
    6.0 mb for $25 a month.

i am looking into charter. does anyone have experiences with them? They say they offer up to 20 down/ 4 up.

Also i game and was wondering what would be the best. I used to have comcast and that was great, but the jack up the rates when your contract is over. I tried clear wireless and that freaking sucked. What the hell is this NAT type "restricted" stuff always (from my experiences) being attached to wireless?

I'm switching to Uverse as well, but the installation timing is a complete disaster.... I was suppose to have it done last Friday and now I gotta wait til upcoming Thursday due to some wiring issue/phone porting... Hope it's worth it... $127 for TV/Phone/Internet @ 12Mbps

Which TV package do you have? Is it U-Verse or standard phone service?
