Glad we agree! I guess I'm just not ****ting my pants over whether or not the coaching staff will be able to teach Adelman's offense to Kyle Lowry, Kevin Martin, Luis Scola, et al. Ain't like Rick was calling plays from his seat on the bench. Besides, the Rockets could trade everyone on the team for some high-usage, ballstopping all-star or mega-raw 7-ft. teenager tomorrow if they think they can swing it. The Rockets aren't making safe moves right now. They're trying new things. They're taking gambles. And it's almost certainly going to get weirder the longer we go without a superstar, so I'm not going to freak out over something small like Kevin McHale's expertise in "Adelman's offense."

I'm not freaking out, I just think we hired someone who isn't an expert at anything.

But at least he talks good.

Also.... Finch is very familiar running Adelman's offense, and he will have a big say in the offense....

Adelman's offense is pretty simple actually. It certainly doesn't take a genius to run it the basics of it.
That certainly plays a part in why it's so effective.
There obviously are quite a few different sets and it takes a while before the players master it, but it's easy to run.
Though while being simple, you have a lot of freedom to run counter-stuff, since a lot of the stuff is simple counter-action and read and react.

I'd think pretty much every NBA coach is familiar with the basics of Adelman's offense and I don't see why McHale would be an exception.
As for the nuances, that what you have film and a playbook, that I'd imagine the Rockets have kept, for.

He should then be the coach instead of McHale. McHale couldn't draw up plays in Minnesota. He used to leave them for his assistants. All the celebrity status goes out the window, when the players realize their head coach is struggling.

I don't know.... but the players and people around him sure seem to think very highly of him as a man, and as a leader. He doesn't have to be an expert at offense or defense if he can get players to play for him, and play hard.... Phil Jackson wasn't an expert at offense or defense, he relied on Tex Winters among others to take care of the details.

The real question is whether he can lead.

The way the NBA is right now, the window done closed for the Rockets to win one...let alone multiple...championships in the next few years.

The West is as tough as ever especially with the Thunder. The East...never mind.

Who is going to come to the Rockets over the other teams with proven stars? And the draft has what phenoms coming out in the next couple of years that the Rockets can get?

Thats why is was so frustrating to see 2004-08 wasted. Injuries just took a toll that will take about a decade to recover from.

Funny - that's the same impression I got as well. With DM & Les, good communication skills AND a dynamite interview are much more important than coaching expertise, record and experience. After all, what does the rest of the league know, right?

You guys seriously thinks Kevin McHale, Hall of Famer/3-time Champion/Hoops Lifer, knows nothing about basketball?

Not to mention the fact he's extremely witty on NBA telecasts...As the saying goes: "If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bulls**t".

Not saying that. I'm reasonably certain that he does know that the basketball goes INTO the hoop. And from where I sit, he has to know more about basketball than he does about being a GM. All I'm saying is that you supposedly engage in a comprehensive "search" - interviewing dozens of canidates and McHale is the best you can come up with? Really? Was this a real interview process or a GEICO commercial?

And then come Friday, Les and DM are going to stand before the cameras and with a straight face continue to assert that they are committed to winning and that having Kevin McHale as the head coach is proof of that commitment. Riiiight.

On a side note, I can't wait to see your witty, satiric posts once the season starts and things begin to unravel.

My conclusion from this article: the Rockets are going to hire Chris Webber as an assistant coach.

McHale is already showing us his communication and motivational skills.

I think with Kevin McHale, we go back to the head coach being the vocal leader of the team, a role that Adelman had delegated to Shane Battier over the years.

    Welcome to HOU, Coach!

You don't think our owner and general manager don't get discouraged and need an inspirational talk once in a while?

I think that's why they went for McHale. They wanted believers to be on their side again.

Maybe it's just me, but if one's job is to teach and control immature, young multi-millionaires, isn't "talk good" a pretty important skill?

The most dynamic and effective offensive and defensive philosophies don't really mean much when players don't give a flip.

Dunno, looking at his NBA interview and reading articles, he seems like the perfect cheerleader for this team

I was so happy to read that Finch would be brought on to keep Adelman's offense. Watching the Bulls and OKC with their disgusting top of the key isolations against set, stacked defenses was sickening. Whoever said the Rockets are the only team that could rack up 100 on the Heat is absolutely correct. We might not win, but we'll motion and smart-offense you to the ground.

Now let's just build up that defense. God Andrew Bogut would be awesome in Rockets Red wouldn't he?...One can dream.
