I think you all know the drill. I'm (sadly) not listing FIOS as it is not provided in our new neighborhood. We had been with Phonoscope (loved them) but can't keep them after the move.
Comcast rate have gone up every year. I now pay almost 160 for triple play when I started out at about 115 three years ago. I am think about dropping the phone and cable from them and go with vonage and dishnetwork.
Take one away from Comcast and add 1 to Uverse. My bad. BTW- We just moved and my fiance' had Comcast and she didn't wanna change. She tells me every friggin' day how much she now LOVES Uverse and sees Comcast as outdated and does not miss the drop off on internet nor their horrible customer service.
Of those listed, I've only ever had Comcast and I don't like their service. It's overpriced and the internet connection used to go down frequently. It's too bad you can't get FIOS. I've had that for the last two years and it's great. Unfortunately, I'm also moving to a location that doesn't offer it.
I liked Uverse but I was paying about $130/mo for the U-200 package + ****ty 3mbps Internet. Now I'm with Dish Network and paying 60 a month for 200+ HD channels,2 DVR boxes and 29.99 a month for 12mbps Uverse internet.
U-Verse can do no wrong on Clutchfans (especially now that they have NBA TV). Seriously though, I switched to U-Verse two years ago from Comcast after Hurricane Ike and it's a blowout. Inertia is what keeps Comcast successful in Houston. They are pathetic.
Whatever you choose, get Tivo. Tivo - $500 for a lifetime subscription. Usually you pay what....$20 per month? So basically after 2 years you're saving money and getting free cable. TiVo Premiere DVR: $99.99 or TiVo Premiere XL DVR: $299.99 So buy the DVR and the subscription and you're set! The best thing is, if you look on ebay, these things (when they come with the lifetime subscription) are going for $300+, so after you've had it for a few years and are ready for another one, you can recoup a good amount of your costs. Or you could just go to ebay now and look there if you don't mind a used one, just be sure it has the lifetime subscription attached to it. Pugs
Enjoying U-verse, but it is a bit expensive for slower internet. I'm paying $119/mo (after tax) for u200 and 3mbps internet. It had crept up over $140 after the 6 month introductory promotion, but I called and got it back down. Cable is such a rip off though. I like having it, but if it weren't for sports I would have no use for it. In the future I am probably going to ditch cable, get better internet, and use netflix/hulu and NBA league pass for all non-network shows.
The DirecTV organization itself is awful. The install process sucked for me - the salesmen flat out lied to me about the number and type of DVRs that were included in my package, but there's no one to turn to since both the salesmen and installers are contractors independent of DirecTV. That said, I love the service itself, but I've never seen U-verse, so I don't know how to compare the two. I was a Dish customer, but the DTV packages were better so I switched. I would recommend staying as far away from Comcast as humanly possible. I paid for the whole-house DVR from DirecTV and have updated to DVRs on all 3 of my HDTV's, so I feel I've invested so much with them that I can't move on, or I may have given U-verse a shot.
You guys are paying much higher prices for UVerse than me and my internets are 12Mbps. Switching to Comcast soon with 15Mbps though, get the 6 month promotion.
TV - DirecTV Internet - Comcast This is the setup I've had for a while now. Best of both worlds, though not the cheapest option. I get to expense my internet bill so it's not a big deal to me.
