Most overrated player in the NBA. A case study on inflated per game stats. Inefficient player who happens to play a ton of minutes and on the fastest paced team and rack up a lot of empty stats.
Am I the only one that thinks Monta could become a serviceable defended with the right coach? Besides if for defensive purposes we let Monta guard the worse player and Lee guard the good one, I think it would be an amazing back court in terms of point differential
But Martin is a much more efficient scorer. It isn't even close. Martin averaged 23.5 PPG on 15.8 field goals attempted per game. Monta averaged 24.1 PPG on 20.1 field goals attempted per game. Both of their defenses are bad. Their team eFG% allowed when on the floor is about the same. Monta does average 1 steal per game more but even Martin is good at getting into passing lanes to get steals/deflections. I'd take Martin due to efficiency.
Monta Ellis compares very favorably with Kevin Martin. On offense, they are very close. On defense, Ellis plays great when he puts his mind to it. Martin couldn't defend anybody if his life depended on it. The key for Monta is he needs some structure and legit coaching instead of the reckless, chaotic system at Golden State. He and Curry have no business being in the same backcourt. Stupid Nellie-ball lingers on and continues to kill the Warriors. I hope Monta gets traded to a solid organization with a good coach and better roster. If he does, you doubters should prepare to have your minds blown.
not just efficiency, but Martin can play without the ball. Ellis needs the ball in his hands to be effective. He reminds me of a Derrick Rose lite.
T-Wolves or Cavs are probably most likely. (Call me silly or stupid) In this year's draft, I would trade a 4th pick for Ellis, even with his questionable defense and shooting habits, I doubt anyone in this draft is going to be as good as he is right now. Teams he would be good for: Portland: Starting 5 (Camby, Aldridge, Wallace, Ellis, and Miller) , McMillian would drag some defensive ability out of him. That team could challenge for the title in the West. Phoenix: He would fit their hectic style. Denver: Just what they need, a high scorer wing player to replace the departed Carmelo Anthony, especially if they lose J.R. Smith. That team would be very deep with a good go-to scorer. New Orleans: He would actually be good for them, because they desperately need to put someone with Chris Paul. He would rejuvenate that franchise a little being paired with Chris Paul and making a team that could be fairly formidable. New Jersey: That's what the owner wants, is a little more star power. Teams he would be iffy for: Chicago: If he could toned down on his shot selection, he'd be great for the Bulls, Thibodeux would drag some defensive ability or effort out of him. Los Angeles Lakers: They could tinker with moving Kobe to small forward, but does Artest mind going to the bench or can they go out bring in a nice wing defender in his place who won't mind. He'd make them more explosive scoring wise, but he might disrupt the chemistry of the team. Especially, when Bynum is already complaining about not getting enough shots. Teams he would be bad for: OKC: They've got one player who is struggling with Durant, with shots take, would they want another one. T-Wolves: They don't have any kind of identity or a great influence to reign him in. Memphis Grizzlies: Offensively, he might be too much like Rudy Gay. Arugably, not as efficient and definitely not as good defensively.
Scola/Miller/Martin/Budinger was involved in that deal. Those might be the four worst defensive players on our team -- I doubt our defense would suffer much, if any, with the loss of those guys. Also, I think the Martin's efficient vs. Monta's chucker thing is overblown. Monta probably uses only 3 more possessions per game to get his points -- Martin is certainly more efficient, but I don't think it's as drastic as people make it out to be.
On the other hand, Martin doesn't do very well playing with the ball in his hands. I definitely agree it's a pass, but I think its a good view into Martin's limitations that it is a close enough trade to merit consideration. They're both limited defensively. They're both exceptional offensively, but also limited in certain ways there. It'll be interesting to see what Ellis brings.
How would anyone know if Ellus can defend? People said the same thing about Grizz players but in the right system they looked like defensive stalwarts. I saw Ellis put the cuffs on Pre-injuries Roy, so I am positive he can be a good defender.
Granger for Ellis works. Other than that I don't see it. Unless West wants to get younger, in which case the t-wolves have a lot of pieces. The grizzlies aren't interested, I don't think Hollins would sign off on a deal like that even if it were only Mike Conley, and certainly not Rudy Gay.
I think Monta is a star, but I don't feel the same way about Martin. However, a star, who, like westbrook is, needs the right players around him. A shoot first pg is difficult to integrate into a team.
I can see that, GSW takes Kanter with the 2nd pick and replaces Monta with their own pick(assuming it's not part of the deal) also works that Minnesota has a lot of cap room. Plus more rebounds for Love, since Monta shoots like 40 times a game :grin:!
