No major league success with Lyles yet. :)

Dierker was a pretty good high school pick up.

OKC fell to Nashville 4-2, as Nelson Figueroa allowed 5 hits and 3 runs in 5 innings. He walked 1 and struck out 3. Anderson Hernandez and Koby Clemens drove in the two runs.

Big day for Dallas Keuchel as he went the distance and blanked Arkansas. Wladimir Sutil went 2-4 with 2 RBI, and Brandon Wikoff and Jacob Goebbert drove a run each. David Flores went 3-3 with a double and scored twice. The Hooks won 4-0. Keuchel scattered 7 hits, walked 2, and fanned 4 for the shutout.

Jonathan Villar had a 2-run homer and drove in another run, but Lancaster lost to High Desert 5-4. Villar homered in the 3rd, and the Jethawks were able to draw within 1 run of the Mavericks with Jose Thompson scoring on a wild pitch and a Villar RBI single, but they couldn't convert their chances in the 8th and 9th. Robert Donovan lost, allowing 8 hits and 5 runs in 6. He walked 1 and struck out 6, allowing 2 homers in the process.

Well, it took 10, but Lexington was able to take the first game of their series against Greensboro by a final count of 4-1. They scored 3 in the top of the 10th. Dan Adamson homered twice, both solo shots. Jio Mier drove in the other 2 runs for the Legends. Adamson opened up the scoring in the 5th, then led off the 10th with the go-ahead homer. Mier added a 2-run single scoring Ben Orloff and Delino DeShields Jr. as insurance. Mike Foltynewicz pitched 6 shutout innings, allowing only 3 hits, 2 walks, and striking out 5 Grasshoppers. He got a no-decision for his troubles, as Brian Streilein allowed Greensboro to score the tying run in the 9th, a solo homer by Ryan Fisher, a former teammate of Orloff's at UC-Irvine. However, that would end up as the only significant event of Streilein's outing, and he got the win thanks to Adamson and Mier. Jorge De Leon notched his 5th save for the Legends.

OKC jumped out to a 3-0 lead over Nashville, but they almost wasted it away by allowing the Sounds to score 2 in the 9th. Thankfully, the 3-2 score would hold up. Brandon Barnes had a 2-run homer in the 2nd. Andy Van Hekken made his first start of the season after 16 relief appearances and lasted 4 innings, allowing 2 hits and striking out 6. Wesley Wright won in relief, allowing 1 hit in 2 innings. Fernando Abad made it interesting, allowing 2 doubles and 2 runners to score (1 was inherited and allowed to score by Dan Carpenter). Dan Carpenter cleaned up the mess to get the save.

Corpus Christi's bullpen was torched late, turning a 4-0 lead entering the 7th into a 9-4 defeat to Arkansas. David Flores hit a 2-run homer in the 3rd and drove in another run in the 4th. Erick Abreu pitched 5 shutout innings of 2-hit ball, sadly his efforts were wasted by an epic fail from the Hooks relievers. Matt Nevarez took the brunt, allowing 3 runs on 2 hits while only recording 1 out in the 7th. Kyle Greenwalt took the loss in his first appearance since being removed from the rotation. He allowed 3 runs on 2 hits, getting the final 2 outs of the 7th, and the 1st out of the 8th.

Lancaster fell to High Desert 8-5. Kody Hinze had 2 doubles and an RBI, and Jonathan Meyer added a 2-run single. Jose Altuve singled twice and scored twice; he's now hitting .404. Jose Cisnero lost, allowing 6 hits and 4 runs in his 5 innings.

Lexington allowed Greensboro to post 4-spots in the 5th and 8th on their way to losing 9-3. Adam Bailey hit his 11th homer of the year, a 2-run shot scoring Ben Orloff, who doubled twice. Jio Mier drove in the other run. Ruben Alaniz was the loser, allowing 6 hits and 5 runs (2 earned) in 4 1/3. He walked 3 and struck out 4, allowing a homer in the proceedings.

In the battle of Astros AAA affiliates past and present, OKC parlayed a 5-run 5th into a 7-5 victory over Round Rock. However, it was a bit interesting as the Express scored 3 of their 5 runs in the 8th and 9th. Anderson Hernandez got the scoring started with an RBI single sending Brandon Barnes home, and Max Ramirez finished the 5th by clearing the bases with a double. There is no one in the OKC lineup that is currently hitting over .270. True story, as Tommy Manzella is only hitting .269 at the moment. Sergio Perez got the win, allowing 2 runs and 5 hits in 6 innings. He walked 4 and fanned 5.

Corpus Christi had the night off. They will be back at Whataburger Field tomorrow night as they roll out the welcome mat for Springfield. Xavier Cedeno will take the mound for the Hooks. In his previous start, he held the Cardinals to 1 hit over 7 2/3. Springfield counters with Kevin Thomas, a guy who held the Hooks to 3 hits in 6 2/3 on May 26.

A big night for Jose Altuve as Lancaster ran roughshod on High Desert 8-2. He finished a triple shy of the cycle, had a 2-run double in the 3rd, a 2-run homer in the 5th, and added an RBI single for the icing. Jonathan Meyer drove in 2, and Jonathan Villar drove in one of his own. Zach Grimmett was the winner, allowing 2 runs and 6 hits in 6 2/3. He walked 2 and struck out 4.

Lexington walked off 5-2 losers to Greensboro, as Isaac Galloway clubbed a 3-run homer for the Grasshoppers in the bottom of the 9th to break a 2-2 tie. Adam Bailey and Roberto Pena drove in the 2 runs, as the Legends were forced to settle for 4 hits, all singles. Tanner Bushue avoided the loss, but he only lasted 3 2/3, allowing 6 hits and 2 runs, walking 1 and fanning 4. The 2 runs were back-to-back solo homers in the 2nd from Mark Canha and Christian Yelich. Jorge De Leon took the loss, as he served up the walk-off gopher with 1 out in the 9th.

Is it safe to assume one can eat Whataburger at Whataburger Field in Corpus?

that would instantly make it the *best* ballpark in terms of concessions, minor leagues, major leagues, or independent, on the planet.

    total win.

Awesome. Will need to book tickets to a game in corpus ASAP. Glad to see the organization being aggressive with these guys.

I don't know. Minute Maid is owned by Coca-Cola...and they do serve Coke products.

But this is a minor league ballpark...and I'm asking for real, because I'll be there next month.

you'd think they'd at least let you bring your WB in, right? It's all in the company, no?

    just answered my own question:

    http://www.baseballparks.com/corpus.asp

Regarding food, there is the obligatory Whataburger concession stand in the stadium's best location: at the top of the entryway stairs, right behind home plate. But Whataburger, which is headquartered in Corpus Christi, coughed up the money to put their name on this stadium for the next 15 years, so I think they've earned the right to have a large stand here.

I wonder what that means for Jimmy Paredes and Brandon Wikoff.

Had the same question? Fantastic news for Altuve and Villar but I imagine they are being promoted to play not sit around. Wikoff has been blazing hot too, although not like Jose, and while Jimmy hasn't been a force offensivly, he has been stealing bases and showing some power.

They may move one of them to third for the time being and DH one of them. Of course one might get send up or down.

You have to think Mier's promotion to Lancaster can't be far off either.

Yea, Jimmy is the question mark for me. I just don't think he is ready for AAA but DH him might be the answer, like you said. Wilkoff could be promoted soon, kid has pretty much mastered AA ball and needs to be challenged a bit if he is going to be a prospect.

Yea, might be time to see what Mier can do at Lancaster. He has had enough time at the lower levels and needs to bring it in a hitters ball park. Kid can get on base, that's for sure, and has power so lets see what he can do in that hitter's park.

Correction... the Dominican Summer League opened up last Saturday. The DSL Astros are currently 1-2. No Ariel Ovando, so that leads me to believe that he'll be with Greeneville or Tri-City once the short-season leagues open up.
