by bbs posters and local media, the Rockes are actually pretty fast.

The Lakers finished slightly before the Rockets (though they also lasted in the playoffs longer, so they had to wait longer to start). However, among the others:

GS is still searching for their coach, looking at several of the guys the Rockets have looked at.

Detroit just got around to firing the highly unpopular John Kuester.

Minnesota (and David Kahn) hasn't even gotten around to deciding Kurt Rambis' fate.

I wonder if all these fan bases are up in a tizzy like the Houstonians have been.

Did those teams fire Rick Adleman?

I doubt T-wolf fans have been in a tizzy about anything for a while. If Detroit just now fired their coach, I don't see much to complain about as far as long hiring processes go.

Also, when you cast such a wide net, it would be nice to land a bigger fish.

GS fired Rick Adelman. Also technically the Rockets didn't fire Rick Adelman, it was RA who didn't want to go back after the FO mandated that he mentor Finch, who would be replacing him in a couple of years.

I think it wasn't the time, it was so much the perception that everyone was getting interviewed for the job that had people rolling their eyes. Casting a wide net is one thing, but at times it felt like the Rox FO were conducting a reality search with all the candidates.

It didn't seem liked such a big list to me. They seemed to have about six candidates they were serious about and culled three finalists from that list. And to me the only real surprise off that list was McHale.

I think Morey said in an interview that some of the names being thrown about in the media were actually not people being looked at by the Rockets. He said agents often start those rumors in order to generate interest for their clients.

Morey has stated previously that they even workout and meet with as many players in the NBA draft as they can just to show interest and build relationships that can be developed at a later time if the situation calls for it. I believe he's doing the same with these coaching candidates. Building a positive relationship with many candidates can prove to be vital in the future. Also, the Rockets FO probably had in mind that they are interviewing potential assistant coaches since they will dictate the entire staff, even though the candidates were specifically interviewing for the head coaching spot.

People can always interpret things in manners that fit their thinking. "Looking at every candidate" could mean interviewing them all until next season, or it just can mean reading their resumes and doing preliminary research on them. The latter doesn't take long, even if it sounds like a time-consuming task.

The Rockets also supposedly have one of the biggest front offices in the NBA. So the speed at which they can comb through coaching candidates also should be higher than most teams.

I loved RA as much as the rest of you and though he did a great job in Houston, but his job was to take a star studded team (t-mac, Yao) to the championship and win it. He is stuck in his ways and simply did not want to endure much of a rebuilding process. His job was done and time run out in Houston. RA wants to win a championship to cap his career off. Clearly this clashed with DM making moves to get younger and rebuild. We need a coaching staff that can adapt to trades and embrace moves to improve the roster for the long run. We are no longer a championship contender. We need a coaching staff that will develop young players. So far we've been rebuilding on the fly and still playing interesting basketball. For a while its going to suck but give it time before you rip on the coaching staff and rockets management. Haters gonna hate but please give it some time. This really hasnt been too bad of a rebuilding process. Look at the astros they are about a decade away from being a championship contender.

Please don't use Golden State and Minnesota organizations as standards that the Rockets should be compared to...

I was complaining only about the diversity of the fish in said net, not necessarily the amount of time. In any case, it appears other teams are taking longer than this one to decide.

I agree. I'm actually disappointed that the net wasn't very wide and the search didn't take very long.
