Could not agree with you more. And in cases like these where its clear cut, I say needle the mother ****er in less then a week and get it over with. Whats the point of keeping him in prison for anything longer then that?

This is a very sad story and I hope this Trash burns in hell but Fox is using this as a terrible ploy to stir the illegal alien debate.

This could have happened to anyone. A drunk is a drunk

You may have beef with law enforcement, but you are way off base here and completely disrespectful. Someone died because an idiot got drunk, high, and behind a lethal weapon. Show some respect for an innocent victim.

Ya a bit over the top but you are missing the point. The issue thad's having is that people think that the idiot's legal status has anything to do with him driving drunk/high.

I can't believe how some of you want to execute him. There is no doubt that he needs to spend a decade or two behind bars, but his legal status has nothing to do with his crime. Nor does the cost it takes to incarcerate him. Now if he's a continuing threat to society, by all means, do whatever it takes to put an end to it. We have people in Guantanamo who would like nothing better to do than kill every living person here. Lets leave the executions to people who are a continual threat.

You're right that his legal status has nothing to do with him driving drunk and high. But it has everything to do with the punishment. His status has everything to do with American tax dollars paying for his trial, his time in jail, and then the time he will be in prison. We already pay for all the other criminals in America so why do tax payers have to pay for someone who is not even a citizen?

Getting behind the wheel while intoxicated is premeditated, despite the fact that there may not have been any real thoughts after being so inebriated. His choice to get behind a wheel ended up with someone dead. That is first degree murder in my opinion and deserves the needle, sooner rather than later.

Making fun of the established discourse of these events (as retold in the media) has little or nothing to do with the events being described.

But, feel self-righteous if you'd like.

I know you are angry but you really think this guy deserves to die just because you think he doesn't pay taxes as opposed to someone who does pay taxes?

(btw read http://roygermano.wordpress.com/2011/02/28/do-illegal-immigrants-pay-taxes/ on tax issue)

Also, premeditated drunkeness != premeditated murder. I highly doubt that the guy was thinking "hmmmm I'm gonna get drunk today and try to kill a police officer". He deserves to be severely punished but not for the (incorrect) reason of being a monetary burden to citizens.

the issue is fox is trying to stir up a debate on illegal immigration on the back of a dead cop killed in a drunk driving incident.

drunk driving and illegal immigration have nothing to do with each. unfortunately they converged in this incident.

I am a firm believer in the death penalty and find it ridiculous to how many criminals who are still alive even when the evidence is rock solid.

Everyone knows that drinking and driving is illegal and a bad decision. The fact that he did get into a vehicle after drinking/being high was a choice. He chose to get in the car which is a heavy duty weapon and drive it when he could not control it. Your argument is like saying, "I know between right and wrong but I'm going to get in my car while high and drunk because I know if I kill someone then it will be okay because I was intoxicated and couldn't think things through."

The monetary burden on citizens is just a small portion of me being upset.

No I'm not saying that at all. Where did I say it was okay? I'm saying that there's a difference between drunk driving and driving drunk & killing someone. Anyway, my original point before you started to make stuff up was for what you posted earlier...

Why the F did you mention tax payers, blah blah blah?? I'm calling you out that you only want to execute him because he's a burden to tax payers. Do you retract that statement?

So it's okay to drink and drive but it's not okay if you end up killing someone?

No, that is not the only reason I would want him executed. He got into the vehicle, knowing that it is wrong to do so, and ended up killing someone. That is the basis of wanting an execution. It only upsets me more that he is illegal and I know that he will most likely not be sentenced to death and even if he was, it would be a long time coming which means that America is footing the bill for a criminal who killed a U.S. citizen.

He deserves a punishment for his crimes. Best-case scenario to me would deport him back to Mexico for him to serve time for murder, DUI, possession, and illegal immigration. Realistically, I doubt that would happen. However, if he's tried, convicted, and serves time here, he becomes a burden to the state and the public. So what are our options here?

Premeditated drunkenness isn't equal to premeditated murder. But DUI should be equivalent to premeditated murder because you are operating a lethal weapon while intoxicated. Bottom line is this country is too lax on DUI.

WTF is wrong with you? Where the hell am I saying it's okay?!? I am saying it is DIFFERENT. This is the 2nd time you've tried to put words in my mouth lol.

I agree that this country's laws are way too lax on DUIs. But someone who drinks and drives does not automatically mean that they are intending to kill someone. Premeditated means that someone actually planned out the death of someone else right? Again, I highly doubt this guy wanted to get wasted, get behind the wheel, and deliberately aim to kill someone.

The guy should definitely get a harsh punishment. I'm not sure what it should be exactly. But his legal status should not be part of the equation here. That was my original argument. In no way am I defending drunk driving.
