The quality of competition in the Japanese league is probably below the NCAA level. The fact that he played 16 minutes in a bench role doesn't really impress me that much.
I wonder if DM can enough money ball sense of those 16 minutes to take a flyer on Tyler. I guessing not.
Being a scrub in a small Israeli League club and a mediocre backup in a Japanese League club..........and some people want the Rockets to use a first round pick on him?
He said "...take my talents here..." about the NBA -- I don't think the Rockets should have anything to do with him. I'd be upset if they used the non-guaranteed 2nd round pick on him, especially with all the other servicable players that project to be on the board then. If someone drafts this guy in the 1st round and he has that guaranteed contract coming his way, by the time the lockout is over he may be dead or 350 pounds.
He said he sacrificed playing at college so he could play amongst better competition. I didnt know the Japanese league was so tough.
He knows better now. The most important thing is he was coached by Bob Hill. He has looked good in drills. Showed a pretty decent mid-range shot and is a legit 6'10-6'11 240+ pounds.
You're joking right? You think he's turned the corner because he got decent playing time in a league that's below the NCAA level? How low are your standards?! It seems like you're just looking for any sign of life in him. Daryl -- do not draft a player because of his measureables, I beg you. Jeremy Tyler is a scrub and doesn't deserve consideration in the first round. If you want to waste a second round pick on a long, tall dude then go for it -- but draft someone useful at #23 please.
Lucas Nogueira could fall to our second round pick, draft express has him at 29. Who would you guys pick out of Jeremy Tyler or Lucas Nogueira?
I'd like to see people justify their answer to this question. Have people been watching lots of Japanese league and low-level Spanish league?
Not so much looking for a sign of life. Just a sign of humility. The league that he was playing in doesn't have the type of coaching that is in the NBA. At just 19, he has that experience that not too many other players his age have. That overseas experience could prove to be valuable at some point. He has impressed and surprised some at the combine already.
I trust Morey and his crew, If he see's something in Tyler that is worth selecting him with either the 14th or 23rd pick... I'm okay with it..
I don't know about the JBL (Japanese Basketball League), but I do know that high school games in Spain (the level Noguiera plays at) are not broadcast on TV.
http://www.sbnation.com/nba/2011/5/2...ft-rumors-2011 Quote: Tyler made headlines in 2008 when, as a top class of 2010 prospect, he left his San Diego high school after his junior year to pursue a professional career. He first played in Israel, but had run-ins with his coaches and hardly got on the court. A comedy of errors led to a spot in Japan's second-tier league, where he played last season. That hardly seems like the path to the NBA. Wait a minute............he didn't even play in the Japanese Basketball League? He played in the BJ League? Yeah, I checked......... He played in the SECOND DIVISION of Japan. Basically, Japan's version of the D-League. So he could barely see the court in the weak Israeli League, playing in a small club and then he was a 15 minute player on a SECOND DIVISION Japanese club...... Individual stats in the second Japanese League http://www.asia-basket.com/player.asp?Cntry=JPN&PlayerID=132227 Team stats in the second Japanese League http://www.asia-basket.com/team.asp?Cntry=JAPAN&Team=7206&Page=3 Notice the stats of Robert Swift as compared to Tyler. If the Rockets want to take him with a second round pick have at it. But using a first round pick on him would be totally asinine.
13% body fat is too much... this kid needs to hit the treadmill... I am strongly against out of shape big men... honestly makes me upset to see people with such physical gifts that dont put the effort into their body that they should. If this guy doesnt show any signs of dropping the weight I have no interest..
