http://hangtime.blogs.nba.com/2011/05/27/mchale-says-no-deal-yet-with-rockets/?ls=iref:nbahpt2 Rumors are circulating that NBA TV and TNT analyst Kevin McHale has agreed to a deal to coach the Houston Rockets. Not so fast, says McHale. Though several reports are indicating that McHale has accepted an offer to rejoin the ranks of the NBA’s coaching fraternity, McHale told sources Friday at Turner Sports that no agreement has yet been reached and that several hurdles in the talks still need to be cleared. Meanwhile, league sources are telling McHale’s TNT colleague, David Aldridge, that McHale is definitely Houston’s choice. The Rockets, according to DA, also have asked for permission to talk with Grizzlies assistant Dave Joeger, though it’s not certain it would be for an assistant job on McHale’s bench or another position. The Grizzlies are hoping to retain Joeger. McHale coached 63 games of the 2008-09 season with the Minnesota Timberwolves, going 20-43, before moving over to the broadcast booth with Turner Sports for the past two seasons. He also coached the Timberwolves in 2004-05, going 19-12.
If McHale ends up turning us down, that will look really bad for the Rockets front office. He seems to have the leverage here.
And if he turns them down after the rockets extend him an offer, I don't see any way that the rockets can go back to Frank and Casey with a straight face.
If he doesn't want to be here,it won't hurt us. There are other options. McHale is not a top notch coach by any means.
mchale just found that las alaxander owns plantation full of slaves. he wants emancipation proclamation before accept job.
I dont understand. ESPN and Yahoo already reported it. Soo..... They say he is the Rockets coach now.
Cheaper than Adelman, which is what I expected. They may end up having to spend a lot of the difference to get the top assistant they want and should spend what it takes. Clearly, McHale's going to need help on the bench.
If Kevin McHale doesn't sign, I'm banking the house it would be Chris Finch, next in line. I saw on KRIV that he will be an assistant head coach for McHale. If McHale and Finch are coaches for the upcoming year for the Rockets, it shows Alexander is calling shots, not coaches. One reason I think Rick Adelman was let go, he was too hands-on for the Rockets to handle and too critical. Before the season, whoever thought McHale might coach Rockets, or Mike Brown will be coaching the Lakers. All we need is DHoward and DWill, whoever coaches don't matter to me.
Would like to apologize. I was drunk and have always wanted to have an inside source. It was not right and I apologize. With that said.. Probably pretty similar to what I said.
