Is it assumption? The guy is talking about resting peacefully at night and then talks about a championship caliber team when it is very obvious that the Rockets are not close to that. Seems like sarcasm, since the first rule sarcasm is to state the obvious. For example "The Rockets don't need to draft a center, we already have 7 foot defensive beast on the team." Obvious sarcasm, because the Rockets do not have that.

And LOL if this is sarcasm the guy is going to bail on the team. How did you all think we got him from Sacramento? You think everything was peachy there? Read his comments coming from there and go back to his last days at Sactown, he wasn't the big fan favorite then.

Since this statement was given in response to a question as to whether Daryl SPOKE with Kevin about his input on the coaching finalists, I'm guessing his response means one of the following:

    (1) (Most Likely) "Yes, Daryl extended me the courtesy of seeking my input on McHale, Casey and Frank."

    (2) (Likely in the Alternative) "No, but Daryl and I are still cool with one another."

    (3) (Least Likely but Being Inferred by Most Here) "No, and screw that guy! Here is an insulting sarcastic remark that will only get me into trouble. See, THIS is how you do it, T-Will!!!"

If you listen to interviews of Kmart, you can tell he has a bit of snark in him. I lol'd.

Next, morey signs a free agent that will solve our Center issues...Chris wilcox.

Bima is right. Judging by Amick's next comment that Kobe would love to hear that , it seems clear Kevin Martin was not being sarcastic at all. Amick worked in Sac and knows Martin well.

Some people are projecting their own hatred and inhumanity onto Martin.

I agree with this. English is not even my first language and I can tell K-Mart is being sarcastic with exclamation points and talk about being champions LOL. He also told Cuban he couldn’t beat him one-on-one without a ref and another time that he wouldn’t comment on officiating because he likes his money too much. He is a funny person, people just do not like to see someone poke fun at their beloved Morey.

    Basically.
I am beginning that McHale got the job
because he was the most accomodating . . .. the biggest YES MAN.

Make me head coach . . .and I will do what Morey says do . . .
Finch on the bench? YES SIR
Play TWill regardless of how he plays in practice or in games? YES SIR

That's not even the comment people are talking about though.

I would have preferred Casey, but I will give McHale a chance.

What bothers me about this hire is this feeling I can't shake that the Rockets' number one priority was hiring someone that would be most willing to play ball with the unusually strict conditions they outlined when they let Adelman go. Groom this coach, don't make waves with personnel decisions, be friendly with the public (a major beef with JVG), etc. In all my years of closely following basketball this is the first time I've even heard of an organization putting such a premium on such restrictive agreements.

I suspect McHale was the choice because he was so eager to redeem his head coaching history that he was willing to be a puppet for the front office. If true, what a wrongheaded thing.

There's no reason to think he's being sarcastic with the prior comment, either, especially if he's not sarcastic about having a good speaking relationship with Morey. The wording may not be quoted exactly and it may just be the way he talks. He was concerned about the coach choice, now it's done he can stop worrying about it.

Sigh....Clutchfans strike again. It's obvious most of the posters here don't like K-Mart. For what reason, idk. Maybe because he scores a lot.

Absolutely! Just look at the stellar job that was done when he "motivated" and "communicated" the T-Wolves to success. But I will say this: They have chosen the perfect coach because he has demonstrable experience leading a team into the NBA Lotto.

Nothing really to see here but whatever.:p RJ on 1560 talking about McHale hire.
They began this process, they were going to hire Frank or a guy like him. Thats where they started. He(McHale) wanted an interview so they gave it to him. Morey was charmed from the beginning about him. Then they went through the backgroud stuff. Players raved about him. Players say they were treated with respect and that he had a great feel for the offensive end of the game. I asked someone this morning: did Les have to convince Daryl or Daryl convince Les? They said they had to convince each other because its a unorthodox hire. Has agreed to 3 year deal with option. Remaining sticking point is the lead assistant. There is some snags with guys they both want. Last few days have been about Kevin doing some soul searching about talking to wife, friends and if he's ready to do this. He brings more in terms leadership than the negative questions about his coaching but is he willing to do it? Is he willing to work these hours? Thats what these last days have been about. End of Thursday, he convinced Les and Daryl he was ready to be all in.

When you say snags, is it agreements over who it will be or it is they know the people but not sure they can get those guys.

The latter one but also Kevin has guys he wants and Daryl has guys he wants. They want to agree on a guy. It will be a D guy. A Thibodeau type who will help him on the D side. Finch will be part of it. Then its focusing on the draft. Unconventional hire. Not a safe hire. Frank was a safe hire. They couldnt get McHale out of their mind. Couldnt get the fact that he was a great player and very smart. Has a charming side. Morey said he has great feel for game and better feel for this game than anyone in this building. Also think there is a charm about him that is undefinable in that the whole organization will like him. Dont think the organization had a relationship with past 2 coaches. So they all go forward together and work be done with the roster.

Which player stands to benefit the most?

Easy one. Hasheem Thabeet, Hill, and Patterson. Thats what they're hoping to instill. Dawson has spent endless hours with those guys. Through the process, has fallen in love with Patterson. Other two? Lets just say, Kevin, good luck. Hoping they can unlock it. Thabeet looks like definite bust and Hill not very promising.

What does this say about Morey, and where he might stand or where he feels he stands, that he hired riskiest candidate?

Think thats just the way he is. Me and Feigen argue all the time about how long he'll be around. Daryl has aspirations to be next Les Alexander, a great investment banker and even wants to produce broadway shows. He has a lot going on in his brain. Part of him, he doesnt feel he really needs the job but he is competitive and he wont quit until he gets there. They took a chance and swung real hard on this one. Could be a 500 foot HR or a popup to shortstop. Part of the fun in this. Wont be popular in the city. Morey has reached that point that he is Gary Kubiak and Ed Wade now. Everything he does is wrong now. God help me, If they start 0-5, it will be the end of the world next year, this is the worst moment in HOuston, etc. People are down on the organization. You fix that by winning games.

You bring up Wade, Smith/Kubiak, almost one of the things, as far as skeptical fans, Wade is to the Phillies, Kubiak to the Broncos and now Morey to the Celtics.

Ainge was a big part of this. Hes this, hes that, he was coolest guy on the floor, he was the guy that saw the whole picture. Hes like Yao a little in that he had great aptitude for the game. Oh boy, lets hope they get to work together for a long time. WOuld make him a lot better coach.

Yeah, but when he coached in Minnesota, he had some crappy GM putting that team together. At least here, he'll get to work for/with Daryl Morey, GM who is actually competent! ;)
