MJ has been underrated since 2008/2009 when people decided to start taking seriously the notion that Kobe Bryant might be anywhere near as good as MJ.

Lol, half of his finishes are posters and and1's that werent called back in the day, in todays NBA MJ would average around 40 a game, the guy was simply amazing, every year he added or improved upon a point in his game, one of the greatest competitors i have ever seen.

no comparison here. jordan > kobe, but they are both very very similar players.

in terms of shooting, id say kobe is slightly better, and this includes the 3-point shot that jordan doesnt have. i think kobe's 81 game can back him up in this one.

defense id say in their prime theyr both alike. kobe is not the defender that he once was but he wasnt the top defender during the USA championship run for nothing.

i think the real difference is that jordan was just more athletic and a much better player at driving to the basket. thats why his jumpshot is harder to guard than kobes 'cause u never know what hes going to do.

jordan just had it all. the athletic ability of lebron and the shooting touch of kobe. if he plays today, hell just simply best them both

even if thats not true.. u gotta admit its more exciting for the game to have these comparisons. no point in just living with highlights of players from the past

Did you even watch MJ and Kobe play D in their primes? To say that Kobe's D was anything close to MJ's D, I have to question if you even watched them play.

Kobe was NEVER a good defender!

I find the comparisons annoying and I think they're incredibly unfair to the current players. At what point did people stop comparing MJ to greats from previous generations and accept the fact that he was the 1st MJ? That's what we should be doing with Lebron and especially Kobe, who's already near the end of his career.

I think too many people have the "back in my day" syndrome.

Micheal Jordan was the most marketed athlete in the history of sport.

Efficiency is everything. That is why I would take kmart over jordan.

The league has gotten a lot better since the 80's and 90's in terms of talent. People like to harken to the good old days, but it is misnomer. Basketball is the second most popular game on earth. The talent pool and scouting has expanded greatly and with that so do the players. The competition for getting jobs has gotten harder. Jordan would still dominate, but lets not pretend that basketball was better back then is a fact. It might be an opinion, but it can't be stated as fact. There were superteams then like there are now. However a lot of the players in 80's and 90's wouldn't even have jobs due to the talent pool.

Do you have any idea how high jordan's numbers and efficiency would have been with single coverage, a 3 second rule and no hand checking? to make it more enjoyable, a greater prevalence of zones making life even easier for him.

Lebron, Wade, Kobe those are players you have to plan for, players where you have to slap on your Artests, Battiers, Barneses, and double teams on.

Jordan is a player you plan in spite of, You know you're not going to stop him, you know he's gonna kick ass.

That game was loaded with all stars. MJ, Pippen, Rodman, Hakeem, Barkley, Drexler.

yea. i did. are u kidding me? kobe didnt win all his nba all defense for nothing, even if the last few ones were not very valid, he still won them rightfully during the first half of his career. he learned his defense from eddie jones and was the lakers primary D during the shaq years.

USA team, even with all that talents, he was still the defense specialist for them. jordan just does it all throughout his career but my comparison was at their primes

true they are pretty annoying. but i think its good for ppl who havnt watched the previous generations to know who they are. if not for comparison, kobe and now lebron would just be regarded as the best player in nba history, without knowing who jordan magic or bird are

It certainly got a lot more athletic. How do you think that would affect a guy like Jordan, who got by early in his career on his amazing athleticism?

    More athletic, not more skilled.

I think the league is watered down compared to earlier years.

Athleticism can be somewhat neutralized by physical defense. Even if a defender gets beat, he can use hand-checking to disrupt the offensive player's rhythm.
