Hello, Perry. <iframe width="425" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/1xv-9Bwnd1E" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> (Lyrics, if you can hear them, NSFW!) This should be his campaign song.
A new effort from Perry? <iframe width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/mTawffTXUEA" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
I wish I could tell you a story about the death of a bill here in Austin a day or so ago, thanks to Mr. Perry and his presidential ambitions. <iframe width="425" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/d6uK_fpb9Rg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
I'm probably missing some youtube-related joke ... but why wouldn't you be able to tell us the story?
Nope, no joke, the thadeus. There may be a clue in there somewhere, but it's nothing I can talk about. Let's just say I know things about the Texas Legislature, Perry's ambitions, and this session that some folks don't know, and leave it at that.
omg ... Deckard is a spy! p.s. I don't want to "leave it at that." Please give us all of your information or someone's gonna straight-up water board your senior ass!
If I'm running against him, I'd simply play, over and over again, the video of him talking about secession.
Hell you can just play his silly campaign advertisements from last year over and over. "Here in Texas we balanced our budgets and produced a surplus."
What a joke. No way Republicans will nominate a Bush protege. Perry would be so easy for Obama to beat it isn't funny. I bet he's angling for a cabinet position or some other career move that gets him out of Texas.
I think you're overestimating the intelligence of the base and underestimating the amount of GOP groupthink. He's the only Southerner in the race besides Gingrich and the 10 Commandments guy from Alabama. He'll have some money. He has cred with TP types. Most of all, the fact that he is a W protege is a good thing because it would really piss Dems off and intentionally pissing Dems off is a big driver for GOP actions and policies these days. Here's Nate at 538:
Rick Perry. The guy talks bad about the Federal Govt. but then believes it's the roll of the Federal Govt. to "take care of" Texas. Those are Rick Perry's words. He believes the Federal Govt. should be taking care of the state. Quite different than his state's rights stances earlier.
I think he's angling for the VP spot. If a semi-sane GOP candidate emerges - say a Romney or Huntsman - they need someone that appeals to the tea party & social conservative bases. Who better than Rick Perry? He's basically Sarah Palin minus all the ludicrous baggage. In a Presidential contest, as 538 points out, he probably can be strong in Iowa and then do fairly well in the deep south, and of course he almost definitely wins Texas. That positions him to be kingmaker and extract the VP spot as his payoff.
