Personal mudsling aside, I'd be happy for Dirk, Kidd, Marion, Peja and Chandler if the Mavs won it all. Jason Terry can still go to hell.
I guess I could make this same "I have friends there" case for Utah. But I won't because I acknowledge that their teams are historically full of flopping, hacking weasels.
I couldnt have said it better if i was you and i said it myself and also... this is faptastic....sauce?
ROFLMAO ROFL COPTER I have 1 statement and 1 question for you sir: 1. When the Oilers were doing well, I hated Dallas. When the Astros went to the World Series I really f****** hated Dallas. When Houston lost to Dallas in 05 I really really hated Dallas. When Houston finally got past the first round, I hated Dallas as much as I hate Osama Bin Laden. When Dallas choked in the 06 finals I loved it with my whole life! The truth is simply that I hate Dallas no matter how bad or inconsistent Houston sports may be. 2. "It's unfortunate that Dallas' title run this year coincides with the clown circus currently going on with the Rockets right now." Sure, us Rockets fans are getting mindf***ed right now, but why are you a member of this board if you despise the Rockets so much?
You make a fair point, but this is the only place where we go to vent about the best sports franchise in the entire world.
i dont get this dallas hate that much since i live out side of texas as for the mavs i am not a huge fan of dirk felt he was always a whiny flopper who chokes, but this year the guy has been beyond remarkable and clutch. he has more of my respect as a player now than in years past - even his mvp year i have no beef with the rest of the mavs outside of jason terry - he can go break his own ankle and i wouldnt shed a tear. if dallas wins it all good for them at this point rather have them win it than miami since miami will only get better the more the 3 of them play and get the ability to acquire better role players around them. dallas is getting up there in age and realistically has a 1-2 year window may just 1 year after this one because of kidd. i am even over the playoff series from 6 years ago the rockets team now is totally different and that dallas team is totally different. its not like the rockets battled dallas in every playoff series since then and developed this bitter hatred/rivalry so to me sometimes this dallas hating seems way over the top. again living outside of texas i dont understand the issue between the two cities
Before these playoffs, I hated the Mavs as much as anyone else here and I really wanted Portland to beat them. However, after the Lakers-series I changed my mind. The Mavs really earned my respect this year. I can understand the Mavs-hatred to a certain extent, but if you love the game of basketball, you simply have to respect the way the Mavs are playing right now. Everything else would be ignorant and stupid. Also, you have to give credit to Dirk. The way he's been playing these playoffs has been phenomenal - unlike Rose who misses shot after shot after shot, Dirk's shooting percentages are extremely good. He soots over 50 percent from the field AND from 3point range and hits 93 percent of his free throws. I think he also set a new record for the highest free throw percentage in a playoff series when having attempted at least 50 free throws. The main reason I would like to see the Mavs win it all is so that Dirk can finally get the respect he deserves.
He has a point - there are tons of 'I hate Dallas' threads here. Few years ago when the Rockets finally made it to the 2nd round the threads were cheering on the Rockets. We didn't see thread after thread about hating Dallas because there was actually something to cheer for.
Yeaaah ummm, I think you missed the part where he stated that he's been a Rockets fan since the Hofheinz years. Yet you think he despises the Rockets because he's able to be a rational fan and person.
This isn't my experience at all. I grew up hating the Cowboys when they weren't very good. Why did I hate them? Because I was a Houstonian and they played in Dallas. I went to Baylor and lived in what is essentially the Dallas media market. Far more kids from Dallas than Houston were there. They ragged on Houston constantly and still do. The Mavs sucked hard when I was in college. I made fun of them and hated on them. I had the NBA over my Dallas friends...they had the NFL over me at that point. I met exactly ONE Ranger fan of all my Dallas friends in my entire time at Baylor. I couldn't get guys from Dallas to even talk baseball with me. I'm a 4th generation Houstonian, and it's in my blood. I remember being a little kid and "learning" from my older brother and father that you didn't like the Cowboys because they were from Dallas. Why? Because "Dallas Sucks." My Dad would tell me stories about living in Dallas for a few years and the people there ragging on Houston constantly..."I bet you're glad to be out of there!!??" they'd say. At the end of the day, it's a geographical rivalry. Nothing more.
Indeed. Terry is about the only thing I really don't like about the Mavericks. (Mark Cuban's petulant whining aside)
LMAO, that's what you think. Take it from the "guy from Houston" that now lives in the DFW area. There is much hate for Houston from Dallasites. People from Fort Worth are the ones that don't really care because they hate Dallas, too.
Oh you would LOVE it there now MadMax. After one world series appearance, everyone there seems to be a baseball aficianado nowadays.
Going by personal income, the Houston area is slightly richer than the DFW area. Both places have tons of corporate HQs though (Houston actually has more). Dallas is what you described though. A plastic, sterile city with a bunch of people who like to stick their nose up in the air. Dallas really has no reason for existing, which is why it feels the way it does (fake). 30 miles to the west, you get a dose of reality with Fort Worth.
And that's your perogative. I don't begrudge your feelings here at all. I absolutely despise Ron Artest and consider DM to be a r****ded moron for trading Donte Green to get that POS so I'm cool if you feel that way about all things Dallas. I don't despise the Rockets players at all. After all, they don't scout college players, make bad trades, give out dumb contracts to guys named Moochie and Mo Taylor, waste numerous years in the NBA lotto and give their fans a spinjob about hiring a doorknob like Kevin McHale to replace a HOF level coach. THAT'S all on the ownership and management. They couldn't fall out of a boat and hit water.
When the Rockets aren't in or have been eliminated from the playoffs, I lose all interest. That said, I do not like dallas. I don't like the cowboys. I don't like the mavs. I don't like fc dallas. I don't care for the rangers. I have no feelings towards the Heat and I don't really care about LeBron and all that stuff about the way it went down. I don't remember many people b****ing when the Celtics big 3 was formed. If I'm pulling for anyone right this minute, it's the Bulls to win 3 straight. I'd much rather see them win the title than any one else currently eligible. Assuming it is Miami vs. dallas...I think I'd prefer dirk stays on the same level as karla. Yeah, they're good...but still on the outside looking in at the true greats.
I agree with you about the Rangers - for the better part of the past 20 years they couldn't draw flies. Funny what winning will do for a team, huh? But I grew up in Houston during the time the Oiler Clown Circus was in town led by their ringmaster Bud Adams. This also happened to coincide with the golden years of the Cowboys under Tom Landry. There were a boatload of Cowboys fans in Houston because well, it was a whole lot easier to root for a football that wasn't constantly being featured on NFL Football Follies. And believe me: Back then, you could travel anywhere in this state and you would find yourself in Dallas Cowboys country. Still can (nice to know that nothing has changed after 40 years). That's where I think a lot of this "Dallas Hate" comes from because I grew up seeing just how much Houston football fans came to resent the smug, condesending arrogance of Cowboys' fans especially after NFL Films gave them the America's Team label. But I still maintain that if Houston teams had been more successful the past 20 years, no one down there would care one whit about any team in Dallas.
Supposedly, Jason Terry already has a tattoo of the trophy. I hope Dallas loses. http://sports.espn.go.com/dallas/nba/news/story?id=6592221
Allright, well, that's all it took to push me into one corner over the other. GO HEAT! (This has become a pattern with me over the years, figure out which team has the least likable guy on its roster, then cheer for the other team)
