Pretty simple question, what new or used car would be a good buy for around 20-23k. Im probably gonna be moving to the north east so id prefer a car with all wheel drive as the wife is gonna have to drive it too. And id also like a car with navigation cause i dont really like the external navigation products like garmin. I like the GMC Terrain but it seems kinda pricey for what it is.Thoughts?

In case you dont want to read:

    Price Range: 20-23K
    Prefer: AWD and Navigation
Year: Doesnt matter, new or used is fine

You can probably find a 2005 BMW X5 with about 40-50k miles for around your price range. Or a 2007 Acura MDX around that price/miles as well.

What's wrong with Garmin? Most built-in navigation system is terrible. I mean, it looks better because it's embedded but functionality-wise I have yet to see one better than a Garmin, especially in your price range.

Not only is not aesthetically pleasing, ive known people that have had their cars broken into so someone could steal their navigation. Its not a breaking point by any means, but just a preference. Would you guys recommend autotrader.com as a good place to search?

You'd be hard pressed to find something better. Big community among subaru owners in case there's weird problems you have to diagnose.

Texas Auto Direct is an interesting place to look as well. They list all their cars on eBay, but I've heard they're a fairly reliable dealer (anyone have any bad experience with them?).

I'm looking for a car too, for around $14/15,000, and that's where I've started the search.

I also agree with the people above: you can get a new Subaru Outback for $23k. Fun driving for you and easy driving for the wife.

Buy a car under a year old that has about 10-15k mileage. Plenty of warranty and life, and a good 25% cheaper (at least).

Don't do it. My Gf bought a CPO Audi A4 Quattro with 25k miles. Worst buy ever.

Gas door doesn't lock when pushed in(took it in 3 times for them to fix it). AC vents always blows upwards. Some engine value got loose and had to be replaced.

    Terrible investment.

Autotrader, Cars.com, and Ebay Motors for searching. Most cars are cross listed, few aren't.

KBB.com and NADA.com for used car prices.

Only models with a bad resell value or high new sale price will get you 25% off.

for instance some high demand model where they are selling new at sticker price.

I bought a 2010 Outback new last year - if you get the model with CVT, you can get 28-30 mpg. That's amazing for an all wheel drive vehicle. I like mine a lot and a used 2010 should be somewhere right around 20K.

Personally, at your budget I would get a camry. Very reliable. Due to the brake recall issue they had, their QA department must have got a revamp. So you know you're getting something good.

2nd choice would be the Kia Optima. Very nice exterior. You can really haggle down on a Kia.

3rd would be Nissan Altima. Would have been the accord but accord looks ugly imo.

    The 2012 Ford Focus.

Seriously, they nailed it with their redesign.

(Or if you're dead-set on AWD, the Fusion is decent)

What about a Ford Fusion AWD? I had a front wheel drive version as a work car, and I think it's by far the best non-luxury/non-performance oriented passenger car being made today.
