I had my first In-and-Out burger recently. For all the talk, I was disappointed in the actual burger. It was definitely a step up from the typical fast food fare (of which I include Whataburger). But I still contend Mighty Fine is the best...though it would be hard for any of you outside of Austin to know that.

    Link with the research
The hamburger was invented by Texan Fletcher Davis, and was first confirmed to have been served at the 1904 World's Fair in St. Louis, although it was likely invented in Athens, TX in the 1880's. Louis' Lunch didn't replace their steak sandwich with a hamburger until the 1930's.

For all the In N Out fans(and some haters), In N Out will be opening 2 locations around Fort Worth/Dallas area in May. My guess is that people will camp out there before it opens and lines will be out the door probably crazier than what happened when In N Out first opened in Arizona.

And for Houston to get an In N Out, they are planning and expanding it slow but word out the street is that In N Out has bought 60 properties throughout Texas so I say within 3-5 years Houston will get an In N Out depending on the success on the first In N Outs and if they can be managed very well to preserve their culture. Probably reason why they are the most consistent fast food burger yet slow at expanding. If In N Out feels like it can't find managers who qualify to run their stores, they will not open despite the success.

    P. Terry's is the king of burgers in Austin, but I go to Five Guys off Guad to get a double bacon with BBQ sauce, shrooms, and onions with a side of cajun fries once every couple of weeks.

The P. Terry's "special sauce" is the t***.

The U.S. has over 300 million people, that's a pretty large pool of people to choose from. I know it must be a challenging job, but come on.

In N Out is family owned. Only someone within the company can be the managers. So basically they are asking some In N Out upper level employees in Cali to move to Texas to manage these restaurants. It sucks for the East Coasters but it preserves the quality and the culture of In N Out.

I went to Five Guys yesterday. Yes they are in fact a little overrated I was expecting more . The burgers were nothing special and the fries sucked.

Apparently there has been some dispute as to who invented the hamburger.

While it could well have been invented elsewhere, some of the things in that research link are wrong. Louis Lunch started serving them in the 1890's not the 1930's. Perhaps they didn't invent them but they claim to be the first restaurant that served them.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Louis'_Lunch

There is apparently a lot of different ideas about who served the first hamburger. The Library of Congress, however, sticks with Louis Lunch.

Whether or not they actually invented it, the place is cool, and still uses the same grill from way back then. In fact they had the entire building moved from it's original location so they could keep the original building in tact and have it be the same experience.

As a result of this thread questioning the pure deliciousness of Five Guys...I'm already hungry for a Five Guys hamburger with hot sauce, mustard, lettuce and onions.

That's right...I just backtraced this thread!!! Consequences will never be the same.

I finally tried my first Five Guys burger a few minutes ago.
Possibly the most over-hyped/overrated burger and fries combo EVER.
    Are y'all serious?

I had a Lankford Grocery burger on Friday. Best burger ever.

Get the Soldier burger with the fried egg on it. Delicious.

88 Dennis St. near Midtown in Houston. But make sure you have some time if you're gonna go. Not quick at all.

i think 5 guys makes a pretty tasty burger, although clearly not on par w a lot of the mom-n-pop establishments around here. and as long as the cajun fries are fresh and crispy, they are pretty delicious.
