So Likud might actually lose the next election? And if so who takes over?

They came in 2nd in the last election, actually. Kadima had the most votes, but Livni couldn't put together a coalition, so after a period of time the #2 party was allowed (Likud), and Bibi put together a coalition of parties well to the right of him.

It's just the "Karl Rove' strategy of political power. You always vilify your opponent and you never stray from your party's talking points (newt!). It boils complicated politics down to the lowest common denominator, 2, us and them. If you can get 51% to vote for 'us' then you control the political agenda.

There is no room for nuance or divisiveness outside of the closed doors of the party strategist. It's monolithic and powerful. And insidious in that it lacks honest review or self critique; the kind of hubris that can lead to catastrophic unconsidered consequences (Iraq). That's why all these Republican candidates, including George Bush, seem like such caricatures. Real people think, change their minds, adjust their positions and make compromises. Any moron can put on a lapel pin and read what he is told. Not only do they not need to be serious thinkers, it actually would get in the way of their presentation if they had any doubt. They do need to have nice hair tough.

    THE

    AID

    .

Americans can deny their own children food without nary a tear, yet they can give billions to a country that openly defies them?

    This is madness.

How anyone could try and draw a moral equivalence between building condos and blowing up school buses is beyond me.

Both are expressions of political will against another people. The Condos are the way Israel takes claim over disputed lands and blowing people up is the only expression left to a desperately overpowered people. It could be the history of Rome.

No one's saying the terrorists are being noble (in fact, they are some of the worst scumbags out there).

but Israel's policies are spawning more and more of them

YES, a certain amount will always resent Israel no matter what (this is the historical error of imposing a mono-religious state on the holiest land area in the world) but what Israel is doing certainly isn't helping.

Now, the United States definitely has no sway over individual terrorists.

Yet Israel is one of America's "closest friends", a developed state that has largely developed under the protection and financing of the west, and a nation that to have an indisputable line to American aid. you would hope America has some influence in that case.

It also stands to reason that Israel should be playing at a higher level than criminals.

    but no no no

Israel: The definition of a "welfare queen".

How anyone calls colonization of another people's land merely building condo's is beyond me.

Anyway, this whole thing is silly, Obama just reiterated the policy that's been in place for a generation. All of a sudden everyone is up in arms?

    Why?

I'm aware of this but I dont see how the math adds up for Kadima. I can see them gaining votes in the next election but really only at the expense of Labor which I think will continue to crumble. (and ultimately this adds nothing to their coalition total) But beyond the obvious Kadima-Labor coalition, where else do they get their 61 seats in the Knesset? I guess Shas is persuadable despite being an orthodox party since they have formed coalitions with Kadima in the past.

But the math still doesnt add up for them. They have to make gains on orthodox parties for anything to actually happen.

Eric Cantor leading from the front:

    --
The following story illustrates Israel's dilemma.

A Palestinian woman from Gaza arrives at Soroka Hospital in Beersheba for lifesaving skin treatment for burns over half her body. After the conclusion of her extensive treatment, the woman is invited back for follow-up visits to the outpatient clinic. One day she is caught at the border crossing wearing a suicide belt. Her intention? To blow herself up at the same clinic that saved her life.

What kind of culture leads one to do that?

Sadly, it is a culture infused with resentment and hatred.

It is this culture that underlies the Palestinians' and the broader Arab world's refusal to accept Israel's right to exist as a Jewish state.

This is the root of the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians. It is not about the '67 lines.

I can't wait for Obama's impending speech at a Native American Policy Network conference where he calls on citizens of the United States to return to England and restore the United States to the pre-1492 borders.

That is certainly part of the nature of the conflict. The other part of the nature of the conflict is the fact that Israel started wars, and occupied lands of the Palestinians, make laws that discriminate against the Palestinians, deny Palestinians the rights or abilities to be self sufficient, and have been doing this for decades.

Addressing the root of the issue that would have a woman acting as a suicide bomber, and the issue that would deal with one nation, oppressing, and discriminating against an ethnicity of people based only on that ethnicity would be a better and more comprehensive way to deal with the issue. The 1967 borders do come into play in addressing that issue.
