If the Rockets wanted a real coach, they wouldn't have kicked Rick to the curb. Look at the finalists for the job. The fact that Kevin McHale is in that list means they aren't serious about hiring an accomplished head coach. Supposedly Lawrence Frank won't even take the job because the Rockets won't offer enough money. When Lawrence Frank is rejecting YOU, what does that say? Why will people not admit that the Rockets don't really care who coaches their team, as long as he will work for cheap and do what they want him to do? If Morey and co. would just come out and say it, I would be okay with it. Instead we get crap like "judge the results, don't judge the name". Who's gullible enough to buy that? Less Alexander, the owner of this team, is conveniently MIA again right now, just like he was during Rudy T's firing.
Since it's quite obvious that coaching really doesn't matter, there is no longer any reason to keep the remaining vets baring Lowry and possibly Hayes. Les should aim for high draft picks and clear cap room so we can start from the beginning. The thing that bugs me the most apart from this, is the over reliance on stats.
They're looking for a filler(or scapegoat if you see it that way, as the post above said). Just buying time for Finch until he can take over.(Next 2-3 years?). Getting someone in there who is willing to mentor and take on Finch as an assistant.
I also believe they are waiting for Finch. Thats why I dont get why they would want McHale or Casey. If they are trying to prepare Finch, then they should sign a veteran coach for 2/3 years so he can learn from them. He is more likely to pick up bad ideas from an inexperienced coach.
Let me just share my thoughts..... Right now, I dont think we really know what was said between Adelman, Morey and Les. Perhaps a few years down the road, clarity will be given to this. All we know is that they mutually agreed not to discuss the details. While McHale maybe the Rockets front runner, I havent heard what Kevin's take on the Rockets is. The fact that he showed up for a third interview says something. Those saying he's a stepping stone for the upcoming development phase and thats all doesnt sit right because I dont think McHale would take the job as a rental coach. Or would he? Some have said we like McHale cause he gives us relevancy. Didnt we already have that with Adelman? It would be interesting to take all the interviewed candidates so far and get their collective take on what they think is going down in Houston. I bet they know more than we do. I would like to know why Morey / Les get rid of a HOF coach. Perhaps his connections? Perhaps the people he will attract to put around him? If I was Kevin, id want to know before I took the job.
All I hear are rumors day by day that this board just takes as gospel and runs with. I have no idea what's going on behind the scenes except that Casey, Frank (?), and McHale have all been declared frontrunners for the Rockets' head coaching position. At some point you just have to admit you don't know and neither do probably half of the nitwits that write these articles. But let's just say McHale is willing to be the scapegoat, coach-to-be-fired, coach-who-must-listen-to-what-we-want-or-else, puppet, etc. Why would he agree to this? Why would any coach? Is the dude broke?
I think they are trying to hit the jackpot ... get a Carl Landry or GM Morey surprise type of coach. Nobody knew at the time of drafting Landry or hiring Morey they would have the impact they would. A coach who is willing to grow with the team and most importantly one who won't fight them in their philosophy. Obviously because of them being unknown as a winning coach, they will get payed less than Adelman would have which would be a big plus.
I think the team is looking its "direction" before it hires its "coach". The team needs a franchise player to build around. DM is collecting assets now, so that a trade can be made latter. DM won't know what the team will look like until after the trade is made. DM wants the flexibility to hire the right coach to match the team once it is playoff ready. Until then the Rockets don't need a long term solution at coach or frankly a long term team commitment to a coach.
They know a top coach would b**** about the roster changes. They'll take a flyer on somebody, and change coaches in a couple of years if necessary, when we have an impressive lineup.
Me too. I was upset at first but now I feel Adelman going somewhere else is best both for him and the future of the Rockets. I think Morey has done a great job with the interviews and guaging how different assistants view our squad, etc. and I think Casey or Frank would be great hires.
Pretty sure DoD is implying he ISN"T being asked of those things. Or at least genuinely inquiring why in the world would he agree if those things actually were asked of him.
obviously this is all just an elaborate multi-sequence scheme in order for morey to finally get to tap stifler's mom
