Wait how is this even a comparison? Those of us from Houston of course know who Z-Ro is and his body of work. The random casual radio station listening non-Houstonian fan would have almost NO idea who he is. Now if you said maybe something like UGK (2 people) against Lil Wayne that would make sense but this shouldn't even be a question. I have scarce songs in my playlist from Wayne and most are from his mixtapes like Drought 3 and such, most all my songs are from artists like Em, Dr. Dre, Wu-Tang, Too Short (Gettin It etc.) J. Cole, Outkast, and Jay-Z. So I'm pretty much a 24 year old, ole schooler.
z ro has nothing on wayne's lyrical skills. i understand houstonians love z ro, i really like him now after he got off the depressed crap in every song, but his lyrics are nothing compared to waynes
This site contains Houston fans so I figured it would have majority Houstonians, also I was just trying to think of a rapper that speaks with soul compared to a rapper that just speaks. HOW DID YOU JUST SAY YOU"RE OLD SCHOOL AND NOT HAVE BIG OR PAC?? :grin::grin: p.s. I'm only 18 and you're list is the same as mine except I have the Roots and other old-school byproducts in there.
I was trying to spark up a conversation about whether people enjoy raw lyrics or a song that you can vibe to and feel where a person is coming from. I accept though cuz I worded it pretty crappy.
I use to listen to z-ro all the time, and his lyrics were sick. Don't really listen to whole lot of rap anymore but when I do it's typically z-ro or trae, or old school. Z-ro is the last link to that old school Houston rap like scarface and ghetto boys. I don't have any issues with Wayne he's a different kind of rapper, more about delivering punch lines than telling some type of story like ro.
I'd think Big & Pac would be a given only reason I didn't mention them. I also missed Mobb Deep, Tribe Called Quest, and Rappin 4 Tay. Lol, I was born in the 80s so I didn't have the pleasure of jammin out to the super oldies but goodies. These were just the musicians I grew up bangin to. :grin:
From Houston I'd go with K-Rino, Scarface, Z-Ro, Trae, Fat Pat (RIP), Lil Keke, Cham and UGK (by way of PAT of course)
