Better for Obama, but I'm not making the case for his inevitable defeat, just countering the notion of inevitable victory. Rising inflation and declining economic growth.
You're a nut if you think inflation is an issue. In fact I'd be more worried about deflation in the current environment. There have been plenty of studies that have shown that an inflation rate between 3 and 4 percent is the optimal level for employment. Anything below that means its actually more cost efficient to lay off employees since the real value of their wages aren't changing. Right now we're at around 2% (some estimates have it even lower) so no inflation isn't an issue. Not to mention economic downturns like this increase the risk of lower price levels which is exactly what happened during the last recession in 2003 for a short time. Frankly the fact that inflation is creeping up a bit is a good thing. We're at historically low levels of inflation and that's not something we want. As for growth rates, looking at quarterly growth rates projections doesn't mean a damn thing. A lot of those adjustments are simply due to incomplete information not a sign that the economy got worse all of a sudden.
Those are adjusted/revised growth rates. Never heard GDP growth rate characterized as meaningless before. As for inflation, I agree it's ok now, but gas and food prices are rising, the dollar is declining, and quantitative easing continues.
Inflation in the late 70's was about 10-15% Headline Inflation is currently averaging around 3%, and that's after 2 years of fighting deflation, and that's due entirely to fuel prices. Core inflation is even less than that. Thank you for answering my "ignorant or lying" question - we have our answer.
So, with the Gingrich implosion, this could be the first time in a long time that the Repubs don't have a Southerner with a chance to win the nom... unless you count Daniels. After all, Indiana has a much grander history with the KKK than some of the "southern" states. It will be interesting to watch the first few southern primaries to see how it plays out.
that would actually be pretty sad Romney will most likely get the nomination if he can get by the whole Romney Care thing. I suppose I would vote for him.

At this point, the Republican nominee is pure guesswork. I think the GOP will surprise everyone with a dark horse candidate, much like the Dems did with Obama. My guess is Condi Rice. Unlike Obama, she's smart, tough, logical, able to make decisions on her own, experienced, has diplomatic skills and is well liked by conservatives and moderates alike.
was she born in Kenya also? Hmmm I don't think Condi Rice has any intentions of running though. At least she has never even shown any signs of wanting to run for higher office. But you might be right. Mitt Romney is kinda the shoe in for now but he didnt even win the primaries last time so yup you might be right that the nominee might come out of no where like Obama.
yeah, obama's stupid. fortunately for him, unlike us, he doesn't get dumber by reading your corky-esque posts.
Only you would make racial a term used for 150+ years to refer to a presidential candidate who comes out of nowhere. Is it because you are a racist at heart?
I'm glad Thumbs brought up Condi, she was on Lawrance O'Donnel two weeks ago still defending Iraq. I was going to start a thread on it but didn't want to waste people's time.
