Yes. Like this year. I realize we didn't use it, but you do remember when we used McGrady to swing Martin right?
If yao is signed to 6 million contract, Morey will have a reason not to sign a center. If Morey does not sign a Big time center this year, I say Good bye Morey
According to everything I read we tried mightily to use it, but no one was interested. I don't really think they would be interested next year either. It's not my money and if we don't need the salary flexibility, give him the max, what do I care. I would absolutely sign him for the vet minimum if he would take it. But giving him the max will tie your hands until mid-year 2012 if you can't move him.
"Ladies and gentlemen, I draw your attention to the outer ring ...May I introduce....Yao Ming.. This gentle 7'6" Chinese giant has amazed audiences all over the world, playing basketball 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.......For his next feat though Yao will attempt to play on one leg, many have tried and died......A big hand for Yao, now, thank you....Oh, and folks don't forget on your way out to catch Zelda the bearded lady and Marco the Wild Boy of Borneo" ...C'mon folks, step right up"
Context, context, context. The point of what he said was: The issue is not WHERE he plays but IF he can play, because IF he can play, he definitely wants to play in HOUSTON. People want to read what they want to read.
I honestly think Yao would take the veteran's minimum because of all the past 2 years getting paid millions for being injured.
The Rockets HAVE to re-sign Yao. They have to gamble on this or he might actually end up making a great comeback this season with another team. I would hate for us fans to suffer while seeing him perform at an all-star level while uplifting teams like Los Angeles or, worse, the Miami Heat. I know some of you would say that he'll just get injured again, but I just have a gut feeling that he might come back to the Old Yao form once again.
bring him back on a much smaller sized contract of course even if he is healthy and doesnt play more than 5 minutes a game his worth ethic alone in practices is worth it for the younger guys to see and hopefully rub off on
It's like an inverse drake equation: (50% Yao Ming)*(90% of centers in NBA)*(75% of normal center's minutes)*(10% of normal center's season)*(5% of normal center's foot health) = 0.00168 of Yao Ming.
That is true, and Yao's whole US organization is based out of Houston. Pretty much everything he is involved in is in Houston. He wouldnt want to play anywhere else even if they did make a bigger offer. He is never going to leave Houston, as is almost all of our former players. But I beleive that it would be too much of an hassle for him to have to play for another team in another state, while his Family and his business is in Houston.
Whether you want him or not is irrelevant. Les will try to sign him, Yao will try to come back. This is a forgone conclusion. I'm cheering for him, because yeah, Yao is a classy individual with the heart of a champion. I love my Rockets, GlenRice can find another team if it bothers him so much that I'm rooting for Yao.
he needs to be signed for what value he bring to the franchise from china... sponsorships... and contacts for Les and the team so about $5 to 10 million a year min
What's the longest amount of time Yao has had to rest? You know how MJ was able to continue winning championships at 35? He took two years off. That rest did wonders for his body. Granted he stayed in shape by playing in the minors, however that's nothing compared to a grueling NBA season. One year is the most rest Yao has ever had. His body will thank him for all of those years he played basketball year round. If he returns he should have no problem getting in shape.
Frustrating to say, but I hope we sign him. He is the difference of us being a contending one from a mediocre one.
