Some people argue that the Rockets should get terrible in order to bounce back up big with some high picks. Leaving aside the probability for the plan to succeed for a moment, I am wondering whether you expect to continue consuming the Rockets (i.e. watch live, watch on TV, buy merchandize) at the same rate as you do now if they become truly terrible...

For me personally: I'd still watch them, but probably not at the same rate. Like most fans, I am less motivated to watch bad basketball than good basketball and one can only take so much of watching the team you root for playing horribly and losing.

If I can get through the period when Moochie Norris was starting at PG , I can get through anything.....

As long as its the young guys playing I'll consume about the same or maybe even more.

Watching the young guys learn from their mistakes and triumphs, and grow as players and as a young team ... that alone is worth watching...

Depends on how long its lasts and if there is a light at the end of the tunnel. If we have a 20 win team next year I would still watch, for the hope of the high pick we haven't had in years. If we draft a franchise player with that pick and still struggle the next year, say 30-40 wins, I would still watch since there is the prospect of improvement. And we know Morey can build around a star. However if they botch the draft and get someone who turns out to be a bust, it would be hard to follow year after year of suckage. (who am I kidding I would probably still consume)

However I think most people who argue for a high pick are factoring in the front office's prowess at talent evaluation. There is risk to be sure, but combine a competent front office with a high enough pick with a deep enough draft(2012) and it should be a good bet.

The Rockets are my basketball team. I'm a Houstonian, and I'm not going anywhere. I do reserve the right to complain, though.

    I'd still support the team.

Best and only thing we can do as Rockets fans.

It will stay the same for me... may even be more interested. As long as there is a direction, the Rockets have my interest.

I wouldn't mind it because the kind of talent the Rockets have right now is the kind that Morey and company have shown a consistent ability to acquire -- the better than average role player. Some top draft picks could do us some real good.

Yeah, I watched twosandwhiches attempt to play the power foward position so put me in with those that can get through anything. It will be interesting how the local media reacts, the same people that want to be in the place of the wolves or the clippers will be the same people talking about how pathetic the rockets are. The clippers can get another two gingers in their line up and the rockets still be a greater organization.

But right now I'm still p.o'd at the removal of the ruler. I'll be O.k in the months to come.

i think following the development of a 20 win team into a championship team is what makes a true fan (for me).

i will feel that much more vindicated for talking **** when the rockets do finally win another ring - because i suffered through the losing to enjoy the sweetness.

bring it on - i'm a rockets fan for life.

The rate now is already terrible. The empty TC is the proof. Nobody watches or talks a mediocre team.

How many national TV broadcast for Rockets in these 2 years? The total number is one.

A mediocre team is no good basketball.
The rating for a mediocre team is even worse than a bad team.

I'd like to think I'd still consume, but the reality is I get a lot of pressure at home to not buy NBALP as is ... it hasn't swayed me yet, but if we tank, I might break under all that pressure ...

Exactly. Let's not forget how we got some these players that some find hard to let go.

    Scola we got for Vspan.

    Lowry we got for Rafer.

Martin we got for Landry(second round pick).

Those are our top 3 players.

Morey has shown that he can produce high level role players practically out of thin air. The problem, at least the last two years, is having everything lined up for a franchise level player. That isn't Morey's fault, stars are at a premium and hard to acquire when all you have to offer are high level role players. If somehow we have the chance to acquire one with one of our role players(Martin for #2), or if that results in a better pick for ourselves in 2012 making it easier to draft our own, then you really can't think twice. You certainly can't let a few role players hold you back when Morey can easily produce more.

Watching a young 20 win team develop is far more exciting than watching Scola and Martin flop their way to 40 wins.

It would be the same, the readout of my care-o-meter for a donut-40 win team of false fleeting hopers vs. 20 win team of young no-hopers isn't that much different in either case. (watch when I can but not fanatically, go to 1 game a year when back in houston, try to catch them when they're in town)
