If I remember correctly they already have a handful of statues outside of staples, if they do one they should do it of him as Roger Murdock.
Its been my experience that Muslims tend to be more devout than Christians, but I don't want to go any further into that since this is not the D&D. In terms of professional team athletes and statues, Olajuwon is the only Muslim who was awarded a statue that I am aware of. I realize not every Muslim believes the same thing, but did assume that this was a common belief.
Ali at Caesar's Palace: <img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3350/3290279898_bb82bf36c5.jpg"> I wonder if they got his OK. That's a really poorly done sculpture.
me, neither olajuwon seems to be very devout, as he made it a point to get back to his muslim roots right before the championships
I looked up Ali statues, and did see some stuff. Nothing from him though. Of course if it was that big a deal to him, I'm sure he could have it removed. It is probably as BRR described it on page 1. Just a case of Olajuwon viewing it differently.
I can understand Kareem's case I dont think Kareem is upset that Magic and Jerry West have statues or even Chick Hearn who is a Laker legend himself. There is a statue of Oscar Del La Hoya and Wayne Gretzky at in front of staples and personally I feel both of those statues are a complete joke to have Kareem has done far more for the city of LA than both of them combined - 5 NBA Titles with the Lakers, 3 straight National Titles with UCLA but for De La Hoya and Gretzy to have statues and not Kareem is a absolute shame.
Kareem always feels slighted about something. He's a whiner with an easily bruised ego. If they want to build a statue of him, though, it's certainly deserved. Doesn't Kevin freakin' Johnson have a statue in Phoenix?
fair or not this is what happens when the media call you aloof (their term for jerk), you get slighted reminds me of the scene with the kid talking about moses malone in Airplane
Kobe will have his before Kareem. he could go this route. <iframe width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/FO1eAri_JjA" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
I dont believe so but its been well over a decade since I last visited the forum I cant recall ever seeing a statue there..if there was anything like that that promoted the Lakers I am sure they would have moved the statue over to Staples now.
Magic and West. They already told him he's next, he's got a new book out and he's trying to generate publicity.
anyone who thinks jabbar doesn't deserve a statue is an idiot. Jabbar is possibly one of the greatest if not the greatest to play the game. He was asked a question in a sporting news article, and he responded to it saying that he thought he should have one ,and that he wasn't happy with his overall treatment by the lakers. If someone asked you whether you deserve a supermodel most of you jacka**es would say yes, and you are some monkey banging on some bbs!! Show one of the greatest players of all time some respect.. geez
He's also not a true Laker because he spent the first six years -- some might say his best six years -- in Milwaukee. I'll nth the whole he's not going to get a statue by being a whiny punk.
Come on guys, it's not like he expects one after saying he thought he should have a statue to be commemorated. He didn't do anything wrong. I can't imagine being 64 and one of the all time greatest NBA players who doesn't get talked about between Wilt, Magic, Kobe, Shaq, and West. It seems like I hear more about Worthy, and Baylor than I do about Kareem. You can't be mad at a him if he feels this way. To be honest a statue of Kareem would look the coolest out of the players I mentioned.
i hope people dont make a big deal about this. i know he said he felt slighted but he was on the Colbert Report when he said it. he may of just been making a joke.
