Can I use a Mac to download .exe files to a fat32-formatted USB stick, and then launch and install those files onto a Vista laptop? TIA. I'm not trying to create a bootable USB drive....I just want to install and run a few maintenance apps like CCleaner, Spybot, and Microsoft Security Essentials. The owner has no idea if any of these are on her PC and I'm wanting to create a PC first-aid kit, of sorts.
You can transfer that way. Just drag and drop. Then copy them onto your Vista laptop before trying to launch/install them. Now, whether the .exe files will run is a different story. It depends upon whether they need support files. If they don't run, don't blame it on how you copied them there; it will be because you don't have all the files needed to run. note: FAT32 is limited to a 4GB file size.
Okay cool, thanks. Her PC works, but is bogged down with god-knows-what, and I thought I could save time by DL'ing this way and then transferring the files to her PC. Thanks again.
FYI: Most websites, if they're smart enough to put a script to save you time in choosing a "download", will figure out you're on a MAC and won't let you download an app or a file that's not for MAC.
Everything I'm wanting to use is PC-only. Near as I can tell, the .exe's are as they should be. I'll find out for sure here in a couple hours.
Yeah, you shouldn't really have any problems. Malwarebytes for example lets you download the exe on a mac no problem.
